For the looks and all the comments all over the internet. Tesla managed to receive 148,000 reservations in 48 hours. That’s currently about half the model 3 initial pre-orders.

it will be interesting to see what ends up happening in the long run. But I have a feeling that the number will go up from here. I think people know more or less know what they are going to get from Tesla and the super charger network. My brother had to put down $1,000 to reserve his Model 3. The Cybertruck deposit is $100. This is another one of Musk's marketing moves.
By the time Tesla gets its two-motor pickup truck to market in late 2022 Rivian will have had its 4-motor truck on the market for two years and Ford may well have its EV pickup in production.
This abundance of reservations is a long, long way from convincing me that anything close to 150,000 Cybertrucks will be plying our highways and byways any time soon.
146k $100 refundable reservations is no joke146,000 reservations in 48 hours. That is no joke.
I think the price point is indeed driving Tesla reservation numbers. But that’s not all there is to it. Rivian will beat Tesla to market by two years. That drives sales too.beat spec and price-wise and wham, you have huge chunk of the market.
well said. Nailed it.Hummer -- another vehicle where visual posing trumps utility in terms of buyer motivation.
Are you a Tesla spy? Should you be trusted? It is the R1T, not RT1.I’m keeping my RT1 order.
Not a Tesla spy. Don’t like Tesla’s engineering process or what it does to people (glass door et Al). Don’t like his over emotional pt-Barnum style publicity. don't like premature rollout of features ( summon) without adequate risk assessment and mitigation.@Mr_funnypuns, all valid points but you are talking rationally. There are a ton of irrational people who plunked down the money and will buy a crap sandwich if it had the Tesla "T" on it. Or they will buy it simply because of the price and no other qualitative reason...And I will DEFINITELY be keeping my reservation. I am ready to hurry up and wait for my fully-spec'd out R1T.

We can wag that. It's going to require 250 - 350 Wh/mi. With a range of 500 miles that translates into a battery pack size between 125 and 175 kWh. No real surprise there.I still don’t see the actual Battery capacity published.
Not really. If it has 500 mi nominal (EPA) range its range with a trailer will be about 250 miles. That’s going to factor into tow range.

I agree with everything said, but gotta be honest.. I don't feel totally rational buying a $70k+ truck from a company brand new, not done a test drive, no idea how/where to fix it, no idea on how well it keeps its value, etc. But I'm going to anyway because for some odd reason I trust Rivian. Their approach seems more professional to me. Tesla goes all mad-hatter with their designs but good lord their production line has to be a mess across so many vehicles that don't share skateboards. QA has to be a nightmare.@Mr_funnypuns, all valid points but you are talking rationally.
