Guys and Gals;

My comment on “vaporware” is not that the truck does not exist nor is it not out there doing real testing. My comment is until I physically see it, touch it, drive it, TO ME it is still vaporware and unobtainium. I was very upset that the truck was here in Colorado for a recent event but I was not notified in any way. That is an opportunity lost.

Look I have been there with pre-production vehicles and laying out money well in advance on pre-orders with Saleens, with SRT, with others. If a design captures my heart, I buy what speaks to me. BUT I have to be honest that the older I get, less patience I have for lack of replacement parts, that feel of driving around a glass slipper of one offs. I still have a deposit hanging out there for a Saleen S1 which was suppose to go into production in early 2018 and yet here we are with no end in sight for it’s production. Post sale on Saleens is a nightmare for service and parts. Have any of you owned a Viper and tried to get it serviced. Qualified Maintenance and Replacement parts? Ha! Ha! It is almost comical. I end up doing them myself.

I am not expecting the 100 years of production manufacture experience in a brand new company or product like Rivian but not expecting a mail order, not supported product, you get what you get either.

I have a ton of questions on post purchase support and maintenance, warranty, parts, etc. Before I will pull the trigger. I have just been burned by others in the past. There are early adopters and I fall in that department. If my concerns are addressed and final manufacturers product is as good as I hope, then I will pull the trigger. Until then, I will remain reserved on my enthusiasm.

This does require an informative partnership relationship between the manufacture and the customer. It was this relationship that made owning a Viper from the start special. It was the people you met with the same passion for the vehicle. Those were almost as important to the entire experience as the vehicle itself. This is luxury lifestyle products and this high end Rivian is most certainly that.

I hope that helps clarify my initial response.

Thanks
Rick

The 2021 Toyota Tacoma is going to have big changes. If it went electric, which it isn't I would put my money there. One comment has the 180KWH model up to $118K. Do I hear $120K? Enough already with speculation.

Not sure where you're getting those prices for the 180kWh model but if you're looking for something a little more credible than speculation RJ has said on more than one occasion it will be sub $90k. Granted that'll probably be without any options.

Brian Gase previously said that the larger packs will come with some additional options by default.

Yea, I was already expecting that but that's a good point. Nice to read that someone from Rivian confirms that. Now we just need to know what those included options will be.

Will be interesting to see just how customizable these will be, from a scale of Tesla to Porsche, hopefully something in the middle
I definitely don’t want Porsche-level customization. Sure you can make it sexy but costs add up quite quickly. I kinda like the Tesla simplicity.

He was probably referring to my post where I speculated price per kw. At this point I have just learned to be patient and try to not speculate.

I've found myself focusing on budgeting to purchase the R1T rather than the unknown. I have no doubt RJ has put a lot and still putting a lot of thought into every aspect of the vehicles, company and consumer wants. So patience is important until more is revealed.

In 2017, I started researching midsize trucks. I thought I was set on buying the Colorado Z71. 2018 came around and I thought I was going to buy the ZR2, but it was lacking the technology I wanted. I did more research and fell in love with the Tacoma. I decided I was going to buy the Tacoma TRD Pro. I did some saving and 2019 came around. I almost pulled the trigger on the 2019 Tacoma, but then heard about the upgrades to the 2020, so I decided to wait.

I was bummed the Tacoma wasn't going to have the better engine and that's when I stumbled onto Rivian and it's performance. I was taken back by the price, but then realized if I was already going to spend a lot on the TRD Pro I would rather put that money towards the Rivian which has the performance I want and will be better for the environment.

I drive a government vehicle for my employment. One day I was fueling up and realized I average 10-15 gallons a day. That's just me and there are about 12 others were I work that do the same. Then I thought about the other government employees that are in the same line of work in the nation and the light bulb went of in my head. It is incredible how much gas is used on a daily basis.

So in short, I can't wait for the R1T, but will wait cause I know a lot of thought has gone into the vehicles to make the environment better.
