Fairly new to the EV world. Picked up a few things from friends and co-workers that have PHEVs and BEVs. Eager to learn more, hence joining EV forums. Targeting 2020 for first EV, assuming I can wait that long. ;)

Looking at the glass as half full ... Since Rivian has a target release date no earlier than late 2020 that gives me time to learn more, prepare, save some money, and who knows, maybe even buy an inexpensive/used EV in the mean time. Any suggestions?

@EyeOnRivian, in regards to your original post about if anyone had any suggestions on cheap EVs in the meantime... I love my little Chevy Spark. Granted it's a giant rollerskate, but it has 330lb-ft of torque, 117mpge and even though it is supposed to get 82 miles to a charge, I've managed 120+ multiple times between charges. I scooped up my 2016 2LT for just over $10k. It had 13,000 on the ticker. Previous lease. Big selling point was it's ability to DCFC as it has a CCS plug. Charges to 80% in less than 20 minutes.

Just found this thread. I'm in SW Michigan and put my deposit down earlier in the month for the R1T. I may switch to the R1S. I'm looking forward to seeing them in the flesh this summer in Chicago or Detroit.

Oh boy, looks like I've overlooked this thread for a while.

Thanks for the suggestion! Looks like you got yourself a nice deal with that Spark and it has worked out well for you. I haven't owned and driven (full time) a sedan/car since before my 1995 Explorer. As it turns out my attempts to convince myself to drive a car again have been unsuccessful thou I haven't given up yet. I'm actually considering maybe renting an EV for a couple days or maybe stop in a dealer and see if they'll let me test drive an EV for 24hrs. Just need to land on an EV car I'd be happy with even if it's temporary to hold me over until I get either a Rivian or Mustang Mach-E. In the mean time I've been learning a lot from this forum but at some point I'd like to actually be driving an EV as it will probably be at least another year before my number is called to take possession of a Rivian or Mach-E. The journey continues ...

I'm looking forward to seeing them in the flesh this summer in Chicago or Detroit.
Welcome! Even though I got to see them both last October at the Normal event I'm also looking forward to when they come to Chicago in July. I have new set of questions for them ;) though I hope most get answered before then as I'm anticipating the Chicago turnout to be much larger than the Normal event thus the Rivian engineers and such will probably be less available for questions.

Also Chicago and no commute. I wanted a vehicle that required less lawbreaking and involved fewer breakdowns for adventure. Also, when it's time for a change, I tend to overcompensate.

Hey all - From the Chicagoland area as well. Not my first EV, but after Tesla's customer service in getting my Model 3 and also dealing with the Westmont SC I just would rather support something new. I have my deposit down for a R1S.

Hello from Illinois! After owning two Teslas, I've decided to sell the one I currently have, and lease a cheapo Mitsubishi Outlander for 24 months until my Rivian gets here.

I'm sick and tired of dealing with Tesla service centers, especially the one in Westmont.

Welcome to the forum @LeoH . :fist bump: Sorry to hear about your troubles with Tesla service. I guess the best way to get great customer service is to not need it in the first place. :fingerscrossed: Hopefully that will be the case with Rivian, but if/when it's needed, that whatever they (via Cox Automotive?) put in place will be a better experience. So which Tesla model / trim are you parting with? Via trade-in for the Outlander or privately selling?

I've had the S60 with rear facing seats, Tesla messed up the repair and the axles failed and the car got totaled, as a result I ended up having shoulder surfery. So I replaced it with 90D with rear facing seats and it's been a pain. So I'm selling it privately, and getting the Outlander on a special lease term through a friend of mine who works for Mitsubishi.
