@aAlpine , great info, thanks!
Ditto! ... But unfortunately this just adds to my desire, impatience if you will, to test drive either of these EAVs. :headbang:

Speaking of which, @aAlpine did you happen to ask or hear any mention any news or status regarding the Test Drive Tour program Rivian is looking to do? Sure hope they get this up and running soon, at least before they open up the ability to configure our vehicles that Rivian said should occur later this year. However, I suspect they will first have to get the plant in Normal rolling first to produce the vehicles used for the test drives. Oh the madness ... :facepalm:

Ditto here. All in due time, I suppose.

@EyeOnRivian, pretty sure this is old news, but it sounds like there will be a number of events where you can come and test drive the vehicles. I asked about locations and they said geographically spread out something like "west coast, central, east coast". Didn't sound like Canada was included, so hopefully something within a reasonable drive from me, like near Seattle at least. Nothing about the schedule or timing, but I'm really hoping something hands-on will happen before needing to commit to the preorder, since I'm still undecided on R1T vs R1S.

I hear ya, same here. I've pre-ordered the R1S but leaning more and more towards the R1T. I'm really counting on a test drive to help determine which one ... assuming I walk away from it liking at least one of them ... or worse, both of them. :surprised: Thanks for the info!

I've been meaning to type this up for a while now...

In brief, I'm even more sold on Rivian :) I loved being able to talk directly to the designers and engineers, and they all seemed very passionate about their work, with great answers to all my questions. When talking to the employees, I ended up starting conversations with "Tell me about what you work on?" and always had an interesting discussion. I also got the impression that they've tried to address every concern possible. For example, I learned that they considered the noise/echo characteristics of the floor material. Just using plain plastic would be also easy to clean, but would make for a worse acoustic cabin experience. I also asked about the structural integrity of the glass roof when offroading, mentioning creaking from Teslas. Their answer was that they explicitly addressed this issue by making the glass thicker and have used some sort of C-shaped attachment method (rather than just glue?).

Some other random things I learned while there (might not all be new news):
- On the SUV, the 2nd row seats fold "flat" on the SUV, but was not promised it would be perfectly flat ("2 or 3 degree slope for the length of the storage space")
- headlights are adaptive and move up left/right and also up/down
- No instrument cluster binnacle because "Rivian is different"
- Considered the reflective properties of the cluster/center displays and will have some sort of anti-glare (early development truck prototype had issues with reflections from rear glass)
- SUV rear interior on demo vehicles aren't quite finalized yet (I didn't notice any access to the compressor, but I'm hoping it will be there somewhere on the final version)
- Several different height options from lowest to highest: Squat (at standstill for loading/unloading), Aero, Normal, Offroad 1 (soft/comfortable suspension with lots of travel and no topout), Offroad 2 (max height for rock crawling etc., low speed only)
- Experimenting with the accelerator pedal controlling not torque (like what all ICE vehicles do), but rather speed, directly. Could be beneficial for offroading where you traditionally need to modulate the pedal based on a multiple factors like traction, angle of slope, etc.
- Both SUV and Truck will have an "adventure" option with stuff like offroad rims/tyres as standard (was concerned since SUV has only been showed with it's road spec.)
- Tank mode might not make it into production vehicles, mentioned it was harder to do on the truck since longer wheelbase
- Qi wireless charging on the center console
- I noticed for the 1st time this full-width underseat storage on the 2nd row:

@aAlpine , on the R1T, are those 275/65/R20 (34") or 275/60/R20 (33") tires?

I'm seeing LT275/65/R20 in the photo of the R1T. R1S says 275/50R22. Though I wouldn't buy anything until it the spec is official. Though I'd be surprised if they changed that between now and production.
