Pretty cool!!! Hope this design allows you to charge other EV brands and also lets you tie into the grid!

Shortly after the news of the auxiliary battery packs patents came out a few months ago I believe someone from Rivian said they had no "current" plans to build them. I did not get any impression from the RJ interview that anything has changed regarding them being manufactured or when they would be available.

Now the Rivian-to-Rivian charging makes total sense. Today an ICE can jump another ICE so why not EVs. However, I would like to believe the odds of needing an emergency charge will be very low (similar to running out of gas), but stuff happens, and if it does, what are the odds another Rivian will be near by? IMO, when in this situation you really need the ability to get a charge from any EV and of course vice-versa. So, like with a lot of these features it raises more questions than answers at this point.

* Will Rivian allow another-EV-to-Rivian and vice versa charging. If so, will they provide the adapters? Cost?
* Will this be standard or an option?
* What will the charge rate be? (not money, though I suspect some one may want to start a mobile EV charging service for a fee. :)
* Does source battery need to be at some minimum capacity?
* Will there be protection, a max setting if you will, to prevent the source battery pack from being depleted too low?
* Beyond draining the source battery, are there any other impacts to the source battery pack? (battery temperature, number of times, decreases life of battery more so than usual discharging, etc.)

Rivian owners could be rescue-charge providers to all EVs...that would be nice and a possible little source of income. Would need a "Rescue-Charge" app. ;-)

It is an interesting idea to be able to do that. In the entire time we've had our Model X we have never ran out of juice. Going from ~250 mile to ~400 mile range will improve our chances of never running out. Our charge times will lengthen though. Ideally I'll never need that feature.
