I wrote Tepui about this about a week ago, here is their response:

Hello,

I have a pre-order for a Rivian and saw that you have a tent for that truck. While I know it isn't out yet, can you give me some specifics on what what on that truck? Is it a model that you currently make with just the Rivian logo? I currently have a 4runner but want to make sure that what I purchase fits nicely on the back of the truck when I get it sometime next year.

Thank you!

Hi Andreas,

The tent on the back of the Rivian was a custom 1-off Tepui LoPro 2. It is not available yet but should be available in the next few months. It will not be available in that yellow color, rather it will come in a glacier gray color.

Cheers,

Max
I’m planning on using my rugadized Autana in my R1T....

Good news is that we know the dimensions that fir the Rivian perfect which would be:
Packed Size
50 x 43 x 8.5in
Packed Weight
105lb

I plan on using an ARB Skydome SWAG. Had a rooftop tent and it is cumbersome.

The swag packed up should fit in the gear tunnel.

Well.... guess I’ll be a bit bulky. My Tepui is 56x48x12 .... aka “The flying Brick” I might trade it in for a hard shell RTT and just put a rack on the bed to raise it up over the roof line. It will cost me some range, but when on dirt roads the aerodynamics aren’t quite as crucial as they are at highway speeds.
There is also something to be said about sticking with ground tents... I might just go back to old school

Am I the only one who would want a canopy? I pre-ordered the SUV but would consider a truck with a canopy. My main use case is carrying my dogs (currently two Chow-Chows, previous was a Samoyed, will probably always have a medium to full-size dog).

I’m sure that after market companies will be making Canopies in no time. Especially ARB and SnugTop

Rivian tonneau cover please. :please:
I worry about their motorized soft tonneau. I worry it will fail, be easy to wreck. I looks so slow. I think I would rather flip up sections of a hard cover than have what they are offering. I also wonder how it would interact with job boxes and storage options but that is a problem with any tonneau.

I had an ARE tanneau cover on my Dodge Dakota for a while. They do look very nice, and create a large weather proof trunk, but I found myself removing it all the time to carry bulkier items. I prefer just an open bed now a days.

Same here. I would love to see a Bestop Supertop or safari style top of some sort. It wouldn't be the prettiest thing on the R1T but it'd add a lot of use than just an open bed or tonneau cover for me.

These extras to turn the R1T into a camper is a little over the top. I'm interested in an electric R1T and have a deposit on one but if my needs were to be off road adventuring I would have to go in a different direction.

Completely agree. It seems that everyone has a different take on what this truck is supposed to be. As I have stated in different earlier posts, this truck is too expensive and too nice to go beat up somewhere and then pay through the nose to have it repaired. IMHO, the RT1 is going to be a light duty showpiece. And yes, I know that you can spend almost as much on a loaded up Tahoe or something, because I used to have one. BUT, I treated it like my baby just like I will my Rivian. For everybody out there in Rivian Land who plans to really use this truck as an adventure/camper/off-road/heavy duty truck, well, you must have way more expendable cash than I do. And you’re probably going to need it. But, go out there and thrash, it’s your truck. :)

If the drivers information panel cannot be fully customized that is one thing I would like to see. Having all the gauges or panel be widget to put them where you want to see them.
Definitely want to see a solar tonneau cover to all charging or extending of range.

Anyone know what towing or hauling will do to the battery usage? I was thinking it might be nice if Rivian made their own line of trailers with a batter in the base frame the same as the vehicle. Have a way in the connections to allow the trailers battery to be used and charged when charging the vehicle. Could help save or extend range when hauling or traveling.

RJ mentioned that at full towing capacity you can expect about half the normal range.

Headrest with adjustable tilt!!! All these new cars have headrests that push my head forward making long road trips a pain in the neck... literally.

Not with a tall trailer. If you have a tall RV which creates a lot more wind resistance, the towing range will be about 1/4.
