I just sold my Tesla P85D but still have the wall charger. I'm wondering if Rivian has released any details on the type of plug they're going to use? Also, the amperage that the battery would accept?..the P85D was fun but I'm more excited for the R1T to arrive...

sdTom, I know it's off topic, but I see you're an owner of an Audi E-Tron. What's your take on it?

Thank you...at least I had the extra panel added in the garage before..the charger should be an easy swap.

Not sure yet. I currently have the Tesla wall charger. I like this setup. It charges faster and is adjustable internally depending on what the vehicle will accept. Hopefully Rivian has something similar.

I have seen an adapter for Tesla destination chargers and HPWC (not suitable for Superchargers)that will fit the Rivian, but Rivian might also throw in some adapters like Tesla does. If I remember correctly there were a few different lengths you could order and either a 40amp or 80amp based on your needs. I’ll probably use this adapter until I figure out how to rewire my garage for a Tesla and a Rivian.

I have found a line of wall connectors that I am interested in if I go with a Rivian, they more pricey than others but seem to be very high quality. I saw a you tube video from Rich Rebuilds when his Tesla HPWC stopped working and he talked about Wattzilla

The R1T will be my first EV.... so, this might be a dumb question to some of you....
Is there typically a standard 120v connection to charge with? I’m thinking about those situations when you’re in a pinch and have to pull an extension cord out of the frunk to charge up. How long would this take to get a decent, if not, full charge? I am an electrician by trade, and we always have “free” temp power on job sites... I’d love to take advantage of that

$3500+ seems pretty steep for dual charging, but maybe that's just me. Installing a new outlet closer to where my Rivian will charge will cost me less than $500.

Whether Rivian provides adapters like Tesla or you have to purchase one, the answer to your question is yes, you can plug into a 120v outlet and get a little bit of charge. The most I've seen is 4miles per hour of charge using a standard 120v outlet, so it's not much, but if you're sitting on a job site for 6-8hours a day, then you can get at least a little bit of charge while your vehicle is stationary.

Our temp power boxes do have a 30a 208v receptacle for welders.... do they have adaptors for that? Hell, I could even run a 50amp cord right off the spider box feed if I wanted.

I agree with the Duo charger @ $3500 is expensive, I was impressed with the build of the charger and the components when Rich Rebuilds opened up the charger. I have my eye on the Black Mamba and the Wall Wattz models both under $1k. Since the Rivian models only have a 11KWH onboard chargers no need to have the 80 amp model. Maybe once the R1T and R1S get released they will have a larger charger.

here is a link to the video where Rich opens up the Charger

I think my Tesla gets about 3 miles of range per hour at 120V. It's a 2015 but, like PoorPilot, I doubt if you're going to see anything much north of 4 miles on the Rivian. You'll probably be pulling as much amperage as the fuse will handle, though, so charging a car off a temporary pole at a job site might hinder the use of power equipment required on the job.

My Tesla charge cord will plug into a 240V FEMA 14-50 plug and requires a 50-amp line to get maximum charging. I don't know whether Rivian is going to provide an adapter.
