Found this on Reddit, definitely a unique execution.

"Just installed 295/50/22 Nitto Ridge Grapplers on my R1T. No rubbing on flat surfaces even turning on lowest setting. Surely there will be a range impact but unsure yet, will follow up with that info. I know this is not the most practical of setups, but its what I wanted so thought I'd share. The haters will hate."

I'm really surprised those tires are actually rated to go on an 8.5" wide rim. I checked. I probably would have gone with the 285 wide ones instead of the 295, but I also have no plans on putting AT/HT tires onto my 22" rims.

It looks better than I thought it would when I saw the title. I wouldn’t go off road with them, but that’s because I’d be worried a rock would damage a wheel because there’s hardly any sidewall for protection.

I see ski racks on his truck - I wonder if they are just trying to avoid buying snow tires? But I didn’t even see that these are rated for snowy conditions🤷🏼‍♂️

Not sure about these Nitto’s snow capabilities, but plenty of AT options with solid if not great snow ability per TR consumer ratings below.

Note the non Riv Pirelli Scorpion AT’s show decent 8.3 snow rating.

True snows for light trucks get snow ratings in the low 9’s. While the Nokian Hakka’s are not included here, IME they are comparably great snows and would show similar outcomes.

That list seems pretty accurate from my experience. The Toyo Open Country AT3s I have on my Tacoma now are some of the best tires I’ve ever had in all conditions, but especially snow. They get an 8.9. The Goodyear Wranglers they replaced because they were horrible in snow are rated a 6.6.

FWIW the guys at Discount tire had recommended a Pirelli AS tire years ago that would be safer in the winter for my Ex’s Volt and it was great with no noticeable hit to range.

The TR consumer ratings are based on hundreds of thousands of real miles by consumers and as such are likely the best gauge of tire performance across a multitude of vehicle and performance categories. A few manufacturers are not included such as Nitto and Nokian among others, but they cover the bulk of tire producers.

Given the repetitive tire questions on the board, first time truck owners, and a bunch of swordfights about who has the best snow driving skillz, may be a good idea to post these as a stickey.

I've opted for the 22" and will eventually replace with Continental DWS06+ if/when a supported variant is produced.

Would also consider Michelin Pilot Sport 4 A/S.

I think it's really important to go into the survey results and expand them.

I certainly don't want a winter tire that only gets an 8.4 for ice traction.

Yea, gotta pic proper tool for the job. It’s always about the trade offs.

Proper snow/ice soft compounds wear fast as hell is the only real downside. Likely even faster under the Rivian’s 7k lb bulk.

Below are my wife’s winter shoes from her 4.6k lb Cayenne, Nokian Hakka R2 SUV’s with only two seasons and circa 14k miles. Tread already under 7/32 and both inside and outside shoulders rounded down.

Those "Grass grabbers" in the original post may do OK in Snow, but if there's any ice below said snow....hello ditch!

I have had Nitto AT and MT tires for years on my jeep they always worked well for their purpose but noise. how is the noise level and handling on the street. I have no doubt they will do well off road.

I had a set on a Tacoma and they chewed through snow really well. I'll be considering them again on my 20's when it's time to renew worn tires.

I like it. Obviously range and road noise will be necessary trade offs but it looks tough and I am a fan of this decision from an aesthetic standpoint
