@twraps When can I expect a carbon fiber wrap for this part? I'm using the bumper wrap and the gear tunnel wrap and both are holding up extremely well. Would love to cover my scratched-up plastic with the same wrap.

Not sure yet...I have a R1S, not a R1T, hence the issue... my neighbor has a R1T and I will ask him if I can have it for a few hours to develop this. If doesn't like the idea of his R1T being my guinea pig, I'd have to wait a bit to find time to rent one on Turo.

Thanks! I personally would treat it as a consumable. It would get scratched after some use and I would keep replacing it. Cheaper than replacing that plastic trim.

Unfortunately you are probably right given how high impact this area is... how much does the plastic trim cost?
Once I start working on this I will see the curves and see if we can perhaps offer some other material down the road, like rubber with adhesive side etc..or if it's viable to put PPF over the vinyl to protect the vinyl.

Not sure about the cost, but going by other plastic trims on eBay, I'd guess $300 to $400.
Wow! Well, at least it's less than the taillight itself... I accidentally melted mine a few weeks ago (even the paint melted) and now I have to spend $1100 for the tail light and I haven't asked about the paint yet ?

I just replaced my tailgate edge because my original was destroyed from moderate use and had ripped off the end of the tailgate so many times all of the tabs broke off. FYI, Rivian changed this part and it is no longer soft plastic, it now has a rubber edge, which gets damaged even easier. I sure wish they would use a tough plastic like all other tailgates that I have had on other trucks.

I’m with ya on tougher plastic. My Tacoma had better tailgate plastic- more rigid and thicker. id Buy a replacement “tougher” piece if someone sold it.

I think the tailgate design as a whole is pretty flawed (already massively discussed). But this would also be something i'd like to have.

Can you pls share a photo of what it looks now? I've only seen the plastic one...

Thanks!

I just had mine replaced as well. It has a tighter mount and does seem to be designed differently around the top edges where it mates up to the bed rail.
I appreciate the plastic strip not shifting around as much (hopefully that lasts).
I also wish that Rivian would ship the trucks with a strip of ppf on the section directly between the lightbar and plastic tailgate trim.

Great idea! I would be interested in a wrap for the tailgate trim. The current plastic scratches easily.
It certainly does scratch easily. I was surprised at how much better the new trim strip looked. Looks like a new tailgate.....except for the nice dent from me mindlessly releasing the gate with the center screen ....right onto the trailer jack. I felt that...and it hurt. I'm still slowly working on pulling that out and touching it up.

Will Rivian sell the replacement to owners who have not damaged theirs yet or do we have to wait until we ruin it? Also, does it take a Rivian Service Tech to install the replacement one?
