Will you convert your R1 reservation into an order or are you reconsidering it?

Do you still plan to convert your R2 reservation into an order?

Changed my vote to "yes" (reconsidering) but only because I can't see being ready to part with my awesome Quad R1T anytime soon. Rivian would probably do well to open up a configurator soon to drum up more excitement with regard to available options even if pricing is expressly tentative still.

I never planned to get one. I just made a reservation to help Rivian with the initial order count. I don't care if they keep the deposit or refund it.

I love my T and am hoping there is a Gen3 with 800V charging and larger battery capacity I can replace it with when the time comes. Maybe one day they will get 180 kWh in there as they originally planned to have. I know - more battery may decrease payload. Maybe. Not if the increase is due to higher energy density.

I would consider it but the family doesn't need a vehicle at this time (or in the next couple of years - hopefully). I am more interested in the r3 and I love my R1T, so I'll pass for now.

Mistakes happen or I thought maybe you were one of the luckiest people in the world. ;)

That is insane vampire drain. I am typically about 1% a day now with a max of about 1.5% with my G1 quad.
Likewise with my Gen1 quad. Often less than 1%/day.

Same, although if the R3X came sooner, I’d be tempted to get one and keep the R1T….

Do not have a reservation, but R2 has been up at the top of our list when we come off our lease.

Size will be important, but now I'm a little concerned about the battery tech and charging curve. In AZ we need good base range + fat charging curve.

The only reason I haven't requested a refund is that someone @ Rivian told me directly that they haven't 100% scrapped the fold-flat front seats for the production model. We've basically become a single-issue-buyer since we're onboard w/everything else (for better or for worse) the R2 has to offer at this point save for that one item. Once Rivian officially confirms this feature has been removed for the production R2 we'll refund as it doesn't offer the biggest feature that would separate that vehicle from the Model Y for our use. I know there's lots of differences but that was the one revolutionary idea that caused us to want one.
See, this is something I'd like to have the option to select. Seats, in general, should have choices. I find my R1T seats a bit firm. Ever been in a gm truck from the early 2000s? It's like driving your living room! I mean I can choose colors inside and out, motor configurations, batteries, wheels/tires but the comfort level is one-size-fits-all.

Also have a Scout rez, waiting to see how things shake out but tentative on canceling and going the Scout route.
I worry with scout it would be like starting all over again with a young Rivian and small service network. Are they planning to leverage an existing service network through partnerships ?

Check out the YouTube video of Jay Leno driving the Scout. While I understand it’s still a prototype, what a piece of crap. They have a lot of work to do.

Leasing Tesla Model 3 until Rivian R3X comes out.
I originally had a CT on order and was interested in an SUV as well. Tesla didn't have one, and the R2 seemed like a good option. I didn't buy the CT and bought an R1T, and I am now totally reconsidering my R2 purchase for a myriad of reasons.

Rivian service is already stretched thin it seems and with long wait times. I think it will get worse, probably much worse, at least in the year the R2 debuts. So getting my R1 or possibly R2 serviced will be much worse.

The wind noise issue that I've seen to some extent in all Rivians I've driven is worse than it should be. Who knows if the R2 will be any better and this wind noise has soured me a lot on the brand. Especially given how much work I've put in to mitigate and it is still worse than it should be.

Overall I have a lot more concerns about the R2 now than before I became the owner of an R1. I see the challenges the brand is facing from the inside. There are clearly some headwinds and the R2 is a make or break product for Rivian. If they don't deliver, I think it will crush the brand.

There are a lot of things I love about my truck, don't get me wrong, but it has been a pretty sobering experience in a lot of ways. I understand the challenges of a startup and bringing a new brand and models to the public. I've worked for 2 extremely well known car manufacturers, so the effort isn't lost on me. I also come from an engineering background.

The things that really annoy me is how quickly they dead-ended the Gen 1 trucks with software. How many issues my truck has experienced so far. Now I have a new with some clunk that sounds like the fasteners they had to retorque earlier. The continuing wind noise saga. Just look at all the threads here on wind noise. I drove Gen 2 trucks and they have it too. Having to find a DIY fix to deal with vampire drain. That is like EV 101 stuff to minimize energy loss. It is like having a hole in your gas tank that continually leaks fuel. Overall, it costs Gen 1 owners likely over $10,000,000 annually on a collective basis.

I was a Day 1 R2 reservation holder but is an opportunity to order came up tomorrow, I'd probably wait a bit before I pulled the trigger, if I did. So at this point, I am likely a maybe or more of an R3X aficionado than R2. Having the R1 in a lot of ways has negated the need/desire for an R2. Since ownership my opinion of the brand has gone from a 10 to a 7 based on my experience. That factors in how much I love driving the truck, terrible Driver+, the issues I've had, the service center quality of work, rework, wait times, etc.

This isn't to complain about Rivian. Everyone's experience is different. I am curious to see how many people are still interested in an R2 at this point who reserved one earlier. I setup the poll to allow for 2 selections. So you could be a maybe but you think your ownership experience could be better.
It’s true that all start-ups struggle with service. Even Tesla still struggles to meet all of their customers’ service needs in a timely manner (My appointment is 17 days out.)

It seems to me that the R2 will be a much simpler vehicle and hopefully, as a result, easier and faster to repair.🤞

I’d imagine their parent company VW wouldn’t want them to fail. They’re independently run, but it’s a major investment for VW.

I updated the thread title. I am now definitely in the "no, I will not convert my R2 reservation into an order" camp. I think it would be a big let down from an R1 and if I do go smaller, and cheaper, it will be the Slate.

At a minimum, I am going to see how the early R2s hold up and how bad service gets for Rivian with all the extra vehicles clogging the service centers. If bad enough, I might sell my R1 if service wait times get even worse.
