Will all Rivians start as 2022 Model Year?

Rivian has only informed the NHTSA about 2022 and 2023 model years, at this time... So it's a safe bet that they're going to start with 2022.

I don't think they have ever reported what model year the R1T would be - but I'm wrong all the time. Only that it was supposed to be released at the end of 2020, and then summer 2021. Hell, they may all be 2023 models by the time it's all said and done.

I've seen communications that say deliveries will begin in 2021... But that doesn't imply any specific model year.

The written communications they've provided to government agencies indicate they will start with model year 2022.

Out of curiosity, why is this important to you?

I think the answer is definitively 2022. If there are no 2021 VINs, the first model year will be 2022...

My guess is resale, if you run numbers in KBB for similar cars with everything being the same (trim, miles, options, colors), the one with the newer year will return a higher value. They go by model year not purchase date.

If you plan on having the car 7-10 years or more, probably not an issue but less than 6 years it is money out of your pocket.

No they do not officially state that the R1T will be a 2021 model, because when I placed my order, they told me they will start deliveries in 2020. Assuming it to be 2020 models.
They haven't really said anything.

Don't know when you placed your order, so I assume your order is not from 2018. I remember that Rivian initially said in Nov 2018, that deliveries might start as soon as the end of 2019, with the likely hood being early 2020, implying 2020 models.
That soon changed to "sometime 2020". That soon became "End of 2020".
The price initially was $60,000. That soon became "$60,000 Before the $7500 government tax rebate", so assuming a price tag of $67,500. Rivian conveniently rounded that up to $69,000.
So that's where the $69,000 price tag came from. So now early in 2020.
Then came covid and gave Rivian a convenient excuse to delay 6 months!
Nobody else delayed 6 months, not Tesla, not Ford, not Gm, nobody.
So Rivian has delayed so many times it's no longer even an issue for me.
I do believe we will get a premium vehicle that has been thoroughly tested and will be a blast to drive.
I can only imagine all the issues and problems Rivian has endured, all I know is that I cannot wait for mine, and knowing Rivian did the right thing by doing it right!

Last fall they dropped the base price from $69,000 to $67,500. Then in May 2021 they separated the off-road armor and front tow hooks into it’s own optional package, reducing the base Adventure package by $2,000.

If you really think no one else is delaying production you clearly are not paying attention.

Take some time and do some research, you may be surprised…..
