Trying to update to .39.

New Gen2 connected to our home (mesh) Wifi in the 1st day of ownership, but now refuses to connect, despite it showing up as a ‘known’/(remembered) network with password token etc.
(Same WiFi supports a multitude of Sonos/Ring/AppleTV/devices & is over a GB fibre).
The other ‘known’ network it has stored is the SC.
Today drove to sit in the carpark at the SC (luckily very close) so that it could latch back onto their WiFi, which worked, to 37%, after an hour.
(SC reception said there were also a few other owners on their WiFi updating in the carpark too).
8 hrs later that update is paused at 38%.
(Called Rivian & their techs confirmed that LTE/Cell updates are actively throttled until WiFi connected users are updated 1st).
Our home mesh is 4yrs old, so it could (possibly) be time to update our system & satellites.
Any working recommends?
thanks in advance for any suggestions or help.

Rivian has had issues with mesh networks before, I don't remember the specifics, sorry.

Also, they have had issues with WiFi AP's that are dual band, can you disable the 2.4G or the 5G radios independently on your AP's?

You can also turn on the WiFi hotspot on your phone, then have the vehicle connect to that at least as a trial.

Thanks so much.
Funnily enough I called them & they suggested doing the same. But trying it using my phone as a hotspot it still wouldn’t connect, despite the phone having full connection to our WiFi, even whilst on the car.
other than a hardware issue with the car, only other thought is that (as you say) it doesn’t like a particular WiFi network configuration.
thanks again though, if it gets sorted will pass on any insights.

The most likely issues are the WPA authentication or the 5 GHz. Create a new, second Wi-Fi network called anything, for example, "Things 2G." Set the authentication to WPS2 or better, or if your Wi-Fi system supports it with no password, make this a guest network (Internet access only, nothing in your house), and make sure it only uses 2.4 Ghz (no 5 or 6 Ghz). This network can be used for the "Internet of Things" devices like Ring, smart outlets, or devices farthest away from your Wi-Fi access points. You may also have a range issue, so try moving one of your mesh Wi-Fi access points closer to the car. I'm happy to help if you have any questions.

Have you tried restarting your entire home network, and doing the infotainment reboot in the Rivian?

I also am having the nightmare "Paused..." update scenario on my gen2 R1S from .35 to .39 since the in-vehicle screen offered the update yesterday (but not the app). I only see a yellow progress bar when I am connected to LTE, and it still says "Paused", but when I go on wifi the progress bar disappears.

I don't think it's wifi: My R1S has uploaded 36GB over the last 2 days over my WiFi, usually only stopping when the R1S falls asleep. So I first sat for 2 hours working from the drivers seat yesterday to no avail, then today found out I can keep the vehicle awake/on wifi if I put it in Pet mode.

I also moved my WiFi mesh network router within 5 feet line of sight of the vehicle, and set up a new 2.4ghz router just for the car. No changes.

Resetting also doesn't work, I have also done infotainment reboots about 5 times, and maybe 4 full hard reboots as well. I tried to deep sleep by turning off everything and leaving it alone a few times, also tried leaving it plugged in and charging.

My service appointment is in December. :/

Name your 2.4GHz and 5GHz differently. E.g., "My_Network_2.4" and "My_Network_5". Then you'll be able to test for sure which you're connected to, if one or the other has issues. My .02 cents, both work fine. 5GHz is faster and 2.4GHz is longer range. When pulling up to the house the Riv will usually grab the 2.4GHz sooner (because of the longer range). Obv. ymmv. Good luck!

My Gen 1 R1T had this issue. Teslas and Ford Lightning did not. My Gen 2 R1S seems to be able to reconnect, but not every time I come home. My guess is Rivian cheaped out on the wifi.

My gen1 lost WiFi prior to this update but a soft reset restored the connection. Make sure to connect only with a 2.4ghz network. I set my home network to broadcast a guest 2.4ghz band and that’s what the Rivian connects to. Once it did, got the update within an hour.
