I would, can’t bring myself to buy a truck that can’t fit skis in the bed. Would likely be in a rivian if this was an option.

I suspect I will ALWAYS find something else that is just shy of fitting, no matter how much longer the bed is.

Right now, having the tailgate drop and still have a flat slideable surface across the entire bed floor seems like a great compromise for this situation. And we can always get those foldable tailgate cages that "extend" it out way more than 6". I'm pretty happy with that.

This is the way.

No matter how much more Rivian would extend it, it will be too short for somone, and it will be too long for another, plus it will cost more, so it's unlikely to create a significant increase in sales.

Yes! The bed is barely too short! I have a couple of pairs of skis that are too long for the bed. 6" would fix the problem.
Exact same issue! Diagonally my 192 cm skating cross country skis fit perfect, but my 207-210 cm classic skis do not.

Right there with you. I'd prefer a shorter cab, longer bed option. Like my old "extended cab" Colorado:

I'm probably in the minority here, but can count on one hand with a few fingers left over the number of times I've ever had people ride in the back seat. Even in my Rivian, I've removed the back headrests and added one of those Thunderbolt Adventure Supply bin covers, to have more flat space. Have considered removing the seat entirely but so far the frunk and gear tunnel give enough space for carrying my tools.

I could do with a slightly bigger cab for when I have adults in the back and wouldn't mind if that space was taken away from the bed. Every time im hauling long lumber, bikes, kids beds ext the tailgate is down and due to the magic of the tailgate hinge its been plenty of bed length.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
To me, the Rivian bed is just 6” shy of being truly useful. I think Rivian would sell more trucks by lengthening the R1T a bit. That leaves space for a few more battery modules, too.

Thoughts?
Yes, but then it wouldn't fit in my garage as neatly, so no.

The R1T is the longest vehicle I can comfortably fit in my garage. So no.

I barely said yes to the R1T because of length, and I've ruled out anything longer.

The EV truck that should eventually come to market is one with a shorter front end to allow a longer bed. There's a lot of room to move everything forward without an engine up front. It might look different, but it would be more practical.

I could even see a market (not by Rivian) for some type of cab-over style EV truck. You could get a full cab up-front and a full-length bed without making the truck ridiculously long.

Glad to hear our product is helping to make your vehicle more functional for your use case!

Would LOVE more bed length.
Do NOT want more truck length.
Magic?
Hear me out - Gear Tunnel passthrough from the bed? There's probably enough room under the tonneau cover compartment for a small passthrough. Hell, you could even double up with the interior gear tunnel passthrough for a mini-midgate...

I don't want to go full Avalanche, but I'd love to be able to stash my powder skis without a rack. But I I'm not willing to size up the truck to do it.

@ElGuano can you share a link to the one you got?
Hey, apologies, I worded it poorly. I don't have one of these, I just meant this is the solution I would look to if I needed just a bit more space than what the R1T bed provides.

No thank you. But I'll take an extra 6" in the backseat (phrasing?).
