Guys, Rivian has always been an Android platform. Why in the world do people continue to believe that APPLE CarPlay is just over the horizon, or somehow going to materialize in the next update? You’re expecting a round peg for your square hole. It’s NEVER going to happen. Have you not yet noticed ALEXA in your Rivian? If you really can’t live without APPLE CarPlay, buy a different vehicle. This has really gotten tedious.
it appears you don’t know that most car systems run android automotive and have CarPlay.

It appears you don’t realize that Rivian isn’t remotely interested in being the tail of Apple’s dog, eagerly waiting for wagging instructions. RJ Scaringe has been crystal clear about this for years, now.

Dude, read the room. Ecupip's point was that Rivian running on Android Auto has nothing to do with being unable to implement CarPlay as you implied in your previous post. Of course we all know the reason is that Rivian wants complete control over the user experience and dataset.

Well you’re the one rehashing it and not even understanding the arguments being made. Have a great day sir!

Ah, comprehension issues.
Take a look back to the original post on this thread, dude. I’m not rehashing anything. I’ve been very clear and consistent. Rivian is never going to get Apple CarPlay, dude.

Watch the scout come in and take a significant share of Rivian’s market due to decisions like these.

Rivian needs to get CarPlay STAT (and whatever non-apple analogue). The Rivian NAV is truly terrible. Right now we have to use the Rivian cartography just to have the map on the screen but have Apple Maps narrate through the phone, which is cloogey and distracting. Also need hands free text narration, this is basic safety functionality.

We got our R1S in April and were shocked that it doesn’t have CarPlay and text narration like every other car does. We travel a lot so we’re in rental cars a couple times a month, which serves as a large sample size for comparison. CarPlay is ideal because you just plug in and go without having to learn any car’s own Nav.

The Rivian is great to drive, we’re happy to be part of the revolution and we’re trying to be a good sport while it grows up.

CarPlay is the buy vs build decision we all learned in business school: build what your competitive advantage is and buy what isn’t. They make a great car that needs to prioritize engineering core functionality and reliability, they shouldn’t make their own Nav in the same way they shouldn’t make their own tires or paper clips at HQ.
Ignore anyone saying your input is redundant and worthless. Redundant? Sure but that's the whole point! In this day and age of AI, there's NO EXCUSE for any business to not aggregate hundreds of redundant natural-language posts regarding the desire for CarPlay, for example, and automatically create a WIT (work item tracking) for feature enhancement and bug fixes.

This is coming from a customer engineer formerly at a large tech company that most have never heard of (we sold HW/SW tools to other tech/science companies). I want you to know that I HEAR YOU, I SEE YOU, and I share your grief! I left my job to try to create a global "suggestion box" based on verified users/buyers and blockchain that will publicly hold any large corporations accountable to their users and their input and actual user experience, not just to shareholders who have completely orthogonal incentives.

I applaud your zeal.

And can't think of a tool that would be more stifling to innovation than one that takes "the most votes for something" and "holds any large corporations accountable" for implementing it.

In the interest of keeping this thread alive for a few more pages, what will the helpful team here in this thread do if:
1) VW deploys AA/CP in their vehicles using the JV software stack used in VW/Porsche/Audi/Scout/Rivian? We know VW plans to use the JV software in all their VW family of vehicles including those that are not US brands (Cupra, Scania, Skota). This is not saying Rivian has to do anything the JV does. Just that Rivian software would be capable of running AA/CP within the software stack/API should the automaker allow it which is agreed that Rivian is not currently going to support.
2) When Rivian decides Gen1 (and eventually Gen2) vehicles are 'legacy' and will get only emergency patch help, no more features? Meaning, will Rivian just deploy an API to allow AA/CP Infotainment as a legacy option?
3) Someone jailbreaks Rivian infotainment to run AA/CP on top of or in place of Rivian infotainment?
4) R2 and R3. We can see & agree R1 vehicles are halo and may not have a customer need for AA/CP. R2 and R3 compete in a different market-set. Those markets do have more competition and those customers expect to have more AA/CP options and less tolerance for subscriptions and single solution mapping/music/voice assistants.
5) And this one is my favorite; someone sues Apple Music/TuneIn/Audible/Tidal/Google Cast/YouTube/Alexa for some codec, library or other infringement. Those expected software houses have to defend but also Rivian is now entangled because those very apps written exactly the same way but by Rivian developers for Rivian vehicles.
