HUD would be nice. Auto up and down windows. The rear window of the R1T to go up and down. Like a 4Runner.
-Unfortunately the gear tunnel will be in the way. I'll settle for a power sliding rear window and massaging seats found in my F150 Platinum.

Anyone besides me think the lighter/natural wood trim from the Lunar Rock interior would look amazing in the Black Mountain interior? The dark stain of the wood trim in the Black Mountain interior makes everything very monochrome. I think the contrast of the light wood trim against the darker interior would add a little visual interest. Would love to order mine this way but don't expect I'll have the option.

Absolutely agree on lighter wood option. I wouldn't want a light color, but something a bit lighter with some interesting grain, for contrast. Maybe like the wood in the silver R1T, or maybe even a touch darker than that even.

I've been dithering on adding this to the list of wants, because I may be the only one interested in it. But I was hoping that Rivian would indeed not only offer the auxiliary battery pack (electronic jerry can) that can be added to the bed when you need extra range (which from talking with one Rivian employee at the SF event it doesn't sound like they are necessarily going to do), but also offer connections for an auxiliary battery near the towing hookups. I plan to pull a travel trailer with mine and even though we'll be getting the 180kWh battery, it would be nice to be able to add additional range when towing by having a battery in the trailer. Something similar to what James Klafehn has done with his T-Rex Build for a Rav4 and I assume based upon the way the channel has gone less successfully with his Model X.

I think it would be nice to be able to add solar and a battery to a trailer, which is pretty common now. Since the trailer will be sitting at home most of the time, the battery will likely be fully charged when you are ready to go. The battery could also be connected to your home to be sort of a PowerWall when the trailer isn't in use and the solar can contribute to your solar array. Then if you could connect the battery to the Rivian when you connect the trailer, the use of that battery could help mitigate some of the range loss when towing the trailer. Then when you are at your campsite the battery could recharge either via solar or hookups and help get you back home.

Of course this would be expensive to do, but I would be willing to do it to avoid trying to charge with a trailer, which the charging networks aren't setup for. I have a small utility trailer that I tow with our Model X and it is a real PIA. However, unlike James, no way would I ever connect to the battery of an expensive EV without OEM consent and published specs. Even better would be to just have their aux battery mounted in the trailer permanently, would just need the hookups at the back of the truck...

Might be a crazy idea, but it could solve a lot of issues with towing a trailer with an EV

I have a few simple requests for the R1S:

(1) a gunmetal blue or a deep/bark blue color option (not such a fan of the blue I have seen on the R1T)
(2) an option for cup holder in the console vs. the combination of the charging pad + the pull out cup holders
(3) a regular retractable sunroof (or are they actually called moonroofs??)

Other than that, I like what I see and really don't believe I could provide any more feedback until the configurator is available and I can see the vehicle in person.

I would like to see the wireless magnetic charging like discusses built-in to the Rivian vheicles and the wireless charging pads offered as an option for home charging. Simple and clean.

I totally agree. Having connections at the rear of the vehicles (R1S too), would be great for trailer w/ battery or even hitch-mounted aux packs.

On RV trailers, solar with batteries could serve double duty in providing extra charge to towing vehicle, as well as generator replacement for being off grid.

You are not the only one interested in something like this but the question for Rivian is "Are there enough people interested in this that we could expect to sell enough of them that we could make a profit. The answer is probably "no". At this time batteries are still expensive and heavy. This means that a 100 kWh auxilliary battery pack would probably have to be sold at a price point well above $30,000. That's an expensive accessory. Then they would have to figure out how to interface the auxiliary battery and its BMS to the vehicle system and how to mount it. They can obviously design it to fit into the bed of the truck they designed but how about 3rd party trailers. Safety is a big concern here as 100 kWh is a lot of energy and it is being delivered via 385V. If one of these things is physically damaged the result can be an explosion or fire. It would take quite a bit of engineering to come up with a workable safe interface. All that NRE has to be recovered and my gut says the market simply isn't there.

Interesting. Had they specified that the aux battery would be 100kWh? I wouldn't have expected it to be that much. I was expecting more something that would give on the order of an additional 50 miles or so, so on the order of 25kWh. Wouldn't have thought they would add a battery near the size of the base model vehicle. If that is the case, then it would be too heavy and would take up too much of the bed to really be portable.

AFAIK they have never indicated any intention to produce such a battery though they have filed (and received, I believe) a patent for the electrical Jerry can. The size, is, of course, a major consideration. If they are smart (and I think they are) they would do it with, say, 25 kWh modules and offer a couple of sizes.

In thinking about size consider that while 25 kWh may buy you 50 miles for the R1T by itself it might only get you 10 or 20 miles if towing a load. What I am getting at is there may not be any point in a pack of such small size. Also keep in mind that practically speaking you will only use 20 kWh out of the 25 i.e. a 25 kWh pack really only delivers 40 miles in practice and half or less of that when towing a load. Of course if we go to a larger size we have the problem of hefting it in or out of the truck or trailer. Perhaps the thing could be arranged in manageable sized modules that could be plugged together. The design space is huge.

I've seen things like this in a couple of places:

Rivian R1T R1S What would you like to see on your new Rivian or from the Rivian company?? 1582583673276

This was taken from a Teslarati Article from Jan of 2019. I think I've seen it elsewhere but don't know off the top of my head. I asked one of the guys at the SF event about it and he said they still weren't sure if they were going to do it or not, so I chimed in my support of it. It sounded like from what he said that thermal management seemed to be the biggest issue for them, but that is just my take away from it.

Believe me, I understand better than most that towing with an EV won't get you the same mileage as not towing. I was just throwing 25kWh out there as an estimate going off the 2.2mi/kWh that Rivian seems to be following for their range estimates. Could be anything at this point. There have been times that I would have loved to have had an extra 10 to 20 miles of range.

Likely the only way that something like this would be feasible is if they created a port with required specs (similar to the claimed vehicle to vehicle charging) and allow third parties to create battery packs or users to source their own. Agreed that this probably isn't going to happen, but if this thread is about a wish list, this would be on mine...

They did "work on" the Jerry can to the point of the patent application but that's a very different thing than producing (i.e. offering for sale) such a product. In fact I think I remember someone asking at one of the shows about this and being told that there are no current plans.

Companies often patent things for reasons other than intention to produce. A "bubble gum card" patent might be useful if, for example, Tesla wanted to build a Jerry can. Right now they can't because Rivian holds the patent. Well they can if they pay licensing fees to Rivian. Or they could offer to trade Rivian the use one of their patents in return for the use of the Jerry can patent (hence the name). Or Rivian may decide to produce such a product and/or license and/or trade with some other company. Or here's one I really like: "Let us join the SC network and we'll let you use the Jerry can patent".

As you list an S and an X I am sure you know how to squeeze out an extra 10 - 20 miles without having to resort to additional battery.

Of course I do. But I also know how unpredictable range can be when towing with one, changing the load and aerodynamics. So if I am to tow with it and take it far from the charging infrastructure, I will always be looking for alternatives. Yes you can charge at campgrounds and yes, if I have a battery system in the trailer I could slow charge off the 120V system if I really needed to. I was just bringing up an idea that could improve convenience in the future.

At this point, I think we've beaten this dead horse into submission, so I'll open the floor to other ideas.

One downside to the R1T IMO, is lack of an obvious way to either hook up climate control to a tent or comfortably sleep in the cabin while staying cool/warm. I'd rather actually experience the outdoors properly most of the time but when you're just trekking along on a road trip and parking at rest stops or next to RV park restroom facilities, I think I'd rather take the climate-control with built-in media screen option, even if the quarters are likely to be a smidge cramped for 6'2ish.

Also, the rear window can't slide down because of the Tonneaux cover, but they could at least add a manual left/right sliding door or even simply a removable option for the glass, allowing you to benefit from climate control with a cab cab cover that can extend out back a bit for sleeping.

If it was easy enough to pop the seat backs off and stow them in the bed, you might be able to get decent legroom from added space in the gear tunnel with some kind of specialized mattress.
