I asked about some trailer items and got this email:

"Thank you for your patience as I gathered an answer for you on the trailer brake capabilities of the R1T. I am able to share that Rivian vehicles will be compatible with trailer brakes and use a standard 7-pin connector for trailer brake controllers. However, I don't have any information to share on whether we will have electronic trailer brake controllers. That information will likely be shared closer to production. "

I bugged Emma with a few questions today.
Q. Are the RIT wheels specific for the RIT or, later
before delivery, I can choose those instead of
the RIS 20in.
A.So there are specific wheels that are for each
package. The Launch edition has less options
that if you choose the Explorer package for
example. But the tires offered are all the same.
There are silver rimmed and dark rimmed
options, different sizes, and different types, but
you get those options for both.
For the RIS, adventure package, the tires have
multiple options. The 20" all-terrain and the dark
version, the 21" road, the 22" sport and the dark
sport. The RIT has the same option. So you
should be able to swap any type of tire later. You
are not set in stone with any configuration until
you sign your purchase agreement!
Q. will the RIS have an air compressor?
A. I believe some packages do, but I will double
check to make sure.
It looks like it does come with an air
compressor! Im checking if that is included in all
packages or not.
Okay, so the air compressor may come with
either configurator package, if you select the
off-road upgrade option. It will come as a
feature in that.
q.Oh great, so the LE will have it since it comes with that upgrade by default right
a.that is correct! For the RIS, it looks like the LE
may be gone, but that can change if preorders
are cancelled or ifthey opt to wait for features
that come later.
Q. will the RIS have a power or manual rear
window?
A. I do not have a lot of details for the windows. I
am going to request that we get this information.
However I am seeing some details mentioning
that there will be a single switch for the
windows, so I assume not manual. I apologize I
do not have more details on that at this time.
Q. will rock rails be offered?
A. I have no information on the rock rails, I know
that we do not have anything like this at this time
in our available accessories, but that is not to
say that wont be an option in the future. If this is
somethingthat becomes available, they will
include it in the configurator at that time and
make an announcement about it.
Q.has the 400 mile been canceled for the RIS,
postponed, or will it get a different max pack
than the RIT [350-400mile range]?
A. That I can answer! They are waiting until next
year to offer a longer range battery pack for the
RIS. They have not shared the exact mileage for
that yet. Nothing has been cancelled though,
they wanted to only begin with the launch of the
extended 300+ range and get those out first.
Q. Does the 2670kg curb weight include the underbody protection for the R1S or T?
A. I have the gross vehicle weight and curb weight
for both vehicles, but we do not have the weight
ofthe vehicles withoutthe underbody
protection. I am going to request that we get this
information because I know the off-road
upgrade offers additional underbody
protection, so this is good to know.

What do you think she meant by the statement that R1S LE preorders may be gone?

I assume sold out. The Hummer was gone in 2 hours.

That enough people saved the R1S LE configuration, so i wouldn't be playing too much with the configurator anymore. Or if you do, do it really quick, so noone takes it :D

Reading that as written, it would appear that all the R1S launch edition stock has been spoken for. They had previously said that if you configure sometime during this early access week, it should be fine, but Rivian's reputation for reliability in making statements has taken a hit lately in my opinion.

I've seen another statement that they intend to deliver all LE in 2021. Maybe a limited number based on likely production capacity?

I was able to glean some info on the differences between the two audio systems (standard vs Elevation 360 included in LE/Adventure pack).

Benefits of the 360 system:
-Rivian Elevation 360° audio has more power per channel (I know this is pretty ambiguous)
-Higher quality components (also ambiguous)
-More channels including: four roof speakers and a coaxial center channel
-Subwoofers (2 for R1T under second row seating, 1 for R1S in cargo area)

I have already configured my LE R1T. Was just trying to convince the wife she needed a R1S. Curious if someone preordered today if there would still be an option to configure a LE R1S or if its just Adventure and Explore options now.

Hopefully, it doesn’t take long for third parties to provide collapsible shades like they have for Teslas.

https://www.tesmanian.com/products/tesla-model-y-glass-roof-sunshade
To me this aftermarket solution looks pretty cheap - not at all keeping with the quality level of a $75K vehicle. I am concerned not only about the heat, but glare washing out the displays when the sun is above and slightly behind the vehicle. My chat session with Amanda did nothing to alleviate this concern. I just can't understand why a solid steel roof is not the base configuration. It would probably be lighter, cheaper, safer in an accident, and require less energy for cabin HVAC. If Rivian do not propose a good solution for this it will most likely be a deal-breaker for me.

If they couldn't fit a full size spare inside the R1S, couldn't they just put it on the back door like a real adventure vehicle... not sure how many off roaders carry a donut... its a pity really since the R1S should be more capable off road than the R1T...
I don't believe that would be feasible given how the rear hatch opens. i.e., not a door.

This move to consolidate the launch edition choices may be the right call, but it seems to leave at least half of us disappointed on at least one point.

If the open roof bothers you, I might suggest a roof rack with a solid or tight mesh bottom. I know its not the same as just being able to opt out of a glass roof, but on the upside you could remove the rack when conditions were right.

Personally, I am planning to build an overland vehicle that will likely cover up most or all of the glass roof, but the camper will be removeable so it will be nice to have the glass there for those times. Also, some light will still get in through the roof which is a plus for me.

I haven't checked into it, but im guessing that the solid roof option will be there after launch edition. I would totally just wait for the vehicle thats exactly what I want, but I am eager to get started with my build.
