I’m feeling a little glum that my s-O—-O-n date doesn’t seem to get any closer so I was hoping to live vicariously through you who are already out there adventuring…

What have you been pleasantly surprised by since settling into your super truck (or suv)? Anything you didn’t expect but that gives you a smile? Little things? Big things?

I know there was a similar thread a long while back but I couldn’t find it.

Thanks for saving me from googling puppy pictures…

There’s a 12v outlet under the info-trainment screen. I’ve watched dozens if not hundreds of video’s and haven't seen that outlet on any of them. Not sure why that made me so happy to find.

How bright the flashlight is

and that new car smell

How fast yet approachable it is. I've driven cars that were either quick or approachable but never one that was both to the degree the R1 is. None of the performance metrics are exaggerated at all. It is an extremely impressive vehicle.

How quick it is, but elegantly quick. I’ve owned numerous SRT’s and they all scream and aren’t easy to drive like a normal adult. The R1T is easy to drive normal and I could have family members drive it and not tell them it has 835HP and they’d never know, until they stomp on it.
This is also my first EV so I’m elegantly surprised everytime I have to fast charge and how cheap it is compared to gas. I’ve got 12K miles on my truck and it’ll be at 13K after my trip during MLK weekend, and it’s cost me so little in electricity compared to gas and oil changes. Absolutely love it. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to an ICE vehicle.

Personally, I have been very impressed with the interior. The materials are upscale, while also durable, comfortable, and functional. I really like the spartan-like simplicity of the dash, as well. And that glass roof is pretty killer!

Oh man, we were all there trying to live vicariously through the forum. I hope your R1 arrives shortly!
I was surprised by
-ride comfort
-how decently it handles on snow in stock 21” tires (and with snow mode)
-efficiency at 55-75mph was way better than I expected
-how freaking easy it is to drive down a mountain. Also up, but coming down used to be exhausting in our loaded down Honda.
-storage. for. days. We all saw the videos but I’ll never forget how blown away I was packing for our first road trip.

How much people want to ask you questions about it. It feels so ostentatious, which is different for a nerdy introvert like myself. A Tesla blends into the herd, the Rivian does not. It's fun chatting about the truck though.

I agree 100% with this. Driving this is pretty incredible tbh. I freaking love it.

1) Getting to share it with others. Every time I take someone for their first ride and get to see their reaction: Priceless Also, folks still stop and ask questions, take photos, catch up to me on the freeway to get a closer look, point and ask their companions "what is that?"

2) The Rivian community (except that one guy), especially the local folks I've met her in Oregon and Washington. Smart, friendly, and helpful.

3) It's just so quiet (compared to everything else I've ever driven).

I've got two that surprised me. Owner since May. At night when the car unlocks, light from the side mirrors light up the ground in front of the front doors to aid in climbing in. I call it the "bat signal". Surprisingly, I just noticed a month a two ago, that inside the vehicle at night the faux wood door paneling lights up but it is subtle. Not sure if it is new or I just never noticed before but it makes the Rivian feel even more elegantly made.

The speed limit displayed on the gauge. Keeps me (mostly) out of trouble.
