I don't know but I believe the R1 is the most made in America vehicle currently. They make their own castings, computer boards, motors, etc.

Most of US aluminum comes from Canada. Even if it’s at the unfinished goods level, it’d be good to know what percentage of cogs is subject to these tariffs directly.

This has been talked about before on this site. Do a search. Because of their weight they don’t have to state what where parts come from. Yes, assembled in America but they get parts from china and Europe and Mexico.

Battery materials from China, circuit boards from Taiwan, glass from Canada, wiring harnesses & rubber from Mexico. Don’t know what the current mix is, but those are pretty ubiquitous across the industry for us manufactured vehicles.

And don’t forget that Rivian will also be subject to tariffs when they export to Canada. No more Rivian will sell here when you have to add the worst currency exchange rate In decades. This unnecessary trade war is plain stupid. If binding contracts like trade agreements can be ignored that easily, could electricity supply agreements be shred into pieces ? When Hydro-Quebec signed large contracts with New York State they were in excess production capacity while they are currently in shortage and need to build new dams to fill the needs of its growing industry. Would people living in New York like to go back to candles to light their homes ?

Not getting glass from Canada might be a good thing.

Given the new 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico, I think it’s a valid question to ask.
Interesting question for sure. What's really a killer is the parts that may cross the border multiple times. A lot of auto manufacturing happens real close to the border, in general, across the entire auto industry. Let's hope the 51st state rhetoric is just a ridiculous negotiating tactic. Although I dont quite understand what the end game is, short of that.

I am told by colleagues (jokingly) that it's all 5-dimensional chess. I can barely play regular chess so none of it makes sense to me. It would appear we (U.S.A. + everyone else) all lose.

Yeah, the theory of pain across the board, but more pain for everyone else, might be a viable one. Canada and Mexico will get destroyed in any trade wars. Canada's economy is tiny. Smaller than 3 state's individual economies. But can't blame them for not just bending the knee right away.
