Boomers are at least 60 years old now... they don't look that old in the picture. But... at least three different boomer aged grandparents pick up kids at my daughters school... so even the boomers know what a Rivian is... Hell... my boomer parents got a taste of 835 hp launch when we first got our R1S... Believe me, they now know what a Rivian is.. or at least their ass does...

This just shows how the mainstream media has purposefully kept consumers in the dark about EVs you can actually buy.

They are shielding their best advertisers, who happen to be legacy auto companies, oil and gas, dealerships, auto parts, etc. from being disrupted. The media is looking out for their sources of revenue, not the companies who want to disrupt those sources of revenue.
Rivian does a shit job advertising.

That's just another way of saying they are not wasting the hard-earned dollars of their new vehicle buyers!

When I was eight years old, I had a revelation: That was fundamentally silly for companies to pay many hundreds of thousands of dollars to run ads telling consumers which products the best products were to buy, for a number of reasons.

1) The manufacturer is biased towards their own products.
2) Consumers know this.
3) Consumers talk to each other and can tell each other which products work the best for them.
4) The consumers generally have no reason to lie (unlike the manufacturers who want to sell more product).
5) Consumers (you and me) ultimately pay the cost of those ads.
6) Consumers would logically avoid products that spent a lot of money on advertising because it's impossible to offer the best value when blowing so much money on worthless advertising.

I have since learned that consumer behavior is not as logical as my 8-year-old brain thought it was. Consumers are inherently gullible and behave like sheep. Even though they know the manufacturer is biased towards their own product, they still are more likely to buy it after being told it's "Ford Tough", which of course is a lie. But, the point remains, companies that spend on advertising, have to charge more for the same product, assuming they could sell as many without advertising.

Since cars are the second most expensive thing most consumers buy (only after their house), it makes sense that a new car buyer might do a little investigation on their own to decide which car serves their needs the best and offers them the most value (vs. what kind of soap they buy, which might be a more emotional, spur-of-the moment purchase).

In any case, I would like to see a world that was more reality based, that didn't have a bunch of biased propaganda that we have to pay for (and waste our time being bombarded by it). I applaud Rivian for avoiding the temptation to waste millions of dollars on ads, let the users of their product share the love!

On tonight's Jeapordy:
"This stainless steel pickup truck's front hood can slice a human finger like a julienned carrot."

A ton of people have no idea what this truck is. I get approached all the time with the most basic of questions still. Who makes it? Is it electric? How far can you go? Does it tow well?

Some basic advertising across the Midwest/Southeast showing what this truck is and what it can do would go a long way.

The one thing about advertisements and me is that very few affect my buying habits. The ones I do find intriguing, I will search the web for information.

People know about Rivian because they know about Rivian. Some people probably see us driving around and will search on the web. People who are into EVs know about all the EVs in the wild for the most part. I have never seen a TV or heard a radio advertisement about TESLA....but I have seen TV ads on big brands (GMC, BMW, LEXUS etc). People know Tesla because Teslas are everywhere and with the ugly CYBERTRUCK news they are familiar with it.

I hope RIvian will start to advertise on TV when the R2 & R3 comes out. I know that when someone asks me about my R1T, I will ask them questions about what they are looking for and most of the time I dispelled the negativity of EVs (e.g. Exploding and catching on fire, horrible range, not enough chargers).

You're in California. You might as well be on a different planet when it comes to general ev knowledge.

It's totally different here. If it's not a Tesla, people won't know what it is or what it can do.

I don't know if I should be offended by that comment or applaud it.....LOLOLOL.

I work less than 2 miles from the Tesla plant in Fremont. When I charge at work, we have 16 chargers, one day, I was the only NON-T Tesla charging.

California is a landlocked island of its own.....I can't wait to get out of this God-forsaken state.

Not offended....actually, flattered.... you think we are might be on a different planet....have you seen the people running this state?.

I might live in California, but can't wait to leave. The idiots in this state are amazing. The only positive thing is the EV infrastructure is really good.
