Like many of you, with today's news I'm not only out of the R1T/R1S market, I'm out of the BEV market entirely. I still need a truck and I need one that is a solid off roader. Here's my new shopping list..

1. RAM 1500 TRX
2. Chevy Silverado ZR2
3. RAM 1500 Longhorn with the Off Road pkg (the luxury option)

So what ICE truck are you now going to consider?

I really like the Sierra AT4X but it’s basically a Silverado ZR2 with massage seats for $6000 extra.

2023 Toyota Sequoia - Capstone
I looked at the 1794 edition (with TRD Offroad pkg) but there are several things I think Toyota missed on. For one, there is no tailgate step or tailgate modifcation of any kind. You can’t even step on the sides of the rear bumper to get into the cargo area (with the tailgate down). GM, Ram, and Ford all have something in that aspect. Even Honda got innovative there.

But, that Toyota reliability isn’t to be ignored.

capstone tundra has a power bed step. Not something I’m concerned with on the sequoia.

I have a paid for 2017 f250 king ranch. Was always going to keep it. But now keeping my 2022 bronco I’m hoping to get delivered in the next two days instead of flipping for Rivian.

IC trucks are not an option, especially diesel, as I can no longer justify spewing toxic gasses and particulates into the air we breath.

I will keep my early reservation for the EV Silverado but I suspect I will be priced out of that too.

I have a 2022 EV6 GT-Line and a 2010 Tacoma (no extended cab, bare bones, roll up windows). The Tacoma is used very little so we will sell it as we transition to a one vehicle household.

I don't do any hardcore offroading, but spend plenty of time on state forest and gameland roads where the muds and ruts are enough to need something with at least some capability. For me, it's more about size. I just don't want/need a full size ICE truck with crappy on road handling and pitiful fuel efficiency. Anything under 30mpg, and really more like 40 mpg, just doesn't do it for me. My size preference is in the Ranger/Colorado/Tacoma category. I waited with high hopes for the Ranger the whole year before it finally came out, but when I saw the abysmal fuel efficiency I knew a pure ICE truck would never be in my future. If Ford wouldn't have suffered through the incompetence of Mulally and Fields from 2006-2017, they would have planned to have at least a hybrid or PHEV version of the Ranger available at launch at 40+mpg. And I would have likely never even considered a Rivian. My 2005 Escape hybrid was way ahead of its time and the 2010 Fusion hybrid (that we still own) was also a leader in its class at the time. Unfortunately they spent the next decade with no vision and went backwards. If they announced a Ranger EV model tomorrow I would make a reservation as fast as my fingers could type. And it would then be a race between them and Rivian to see who could get one in my driveway first.
