I thought that, too, and was surprised when I found the EPA document. Doing a bit more research, I think the default stipulation is from CARB (California Air Resources Board) and starts for Model Year 2026.Did not realize that. Somewhere I heard that it has to be tested in whatever mode the vehicle comes up in by default, so standard. But maybe that was wrong.
Rivian opted to use the most economical and least economical modes that can be left in day-to-day for testing and split the difference for the EPA rating. Off-road resets to all-purpose the next day.Interesting, so is the default/normal mode for Rivian the "All Purpose" mode? The R1S range estimates I'm getting is for All-purpose (~305 miles) is 10% less than conserve (~338 miles), thus my question about the EPA estimate of 321. Does the EPA doc mention % of time in conserve vs sport? I coudln't find that detail.
