What does Conserve mode do?

I have 500 miles on my R2, and I was toying with Conserve mode. In my R1s the rang indicated a 30 mile boost in Conserve, it turned off the two rear motors and gimped the throttle. In the R2, it adds 2 miles in range and there isn't really a noticeable difference in throttle. Both motors still seem active on acceleration as well.

Any other owners found anything different? I know what the manual says, but it just doesn't seem very useful in the real world.
