I HOPE they offer an option in sport mode to use standard height. That would be a game changer.
A friendly reminder to others to submit feedback to Rivian, so they can understand their customers wishes… ?

Send feedback to Rivian thru the app.

1. From the Vehicle Tab (vehicle icon) scroll to the bottom
2. Tap Share feedback
3. Tap No - this step ensures that your feedback is not a service request or question on warranty.
4. Select a topic from the dropdown list and share feedback

You’ll likely receive a canned response.

If you center your idea around safety or attentiveness (e.g. eyes on the road), that may give the feedback more traction?!?

I don't find the ride to be that bad in low/firm. I prefer it over low/soft. Lowest can be jarring and dizzying on certain surfaces though.
so there is a "lowest" below "low"? don't think I realized that

You betcha, sport mode is the only way to access it on the Dual Motor variants. Quad can access it in sport mode and conserve mode.

sweet! paying for the performance upgrade might be worth it just for that cool lowered stance look (joking)

so you quickly switch to sport mode just to pass another car and then switch back? Seems impractical to me….
It Is the EV equivalent of dropping a gear... ;)

Thank you OP and responders! I was planning on making the upgrade (depending on the price) but you all have saved us $$$$. I was looking forward to the additional power (not that it’s really needed) but it sounds like it’s only available in specific use cases that make the ride quality less enjoyable.

Interesting, the input here has me leaning toward upgrading (assuming it’s not over $5k). I generally like the firm ride setting. I do hope they make it more flexible though.

That said, I find the regular dual awesome and a sane person would probably say that’s plenty.

For most people the performance upgrade is probably excessive and unnecessary but I think it really depends on what you want out of it. If you just want more straight line power you might not find it appealing or worth while due to the ride quality concessions. And lets be honest, for public roads its already fast enough. On the other hand, if you appreciate a curvy mountain road and have a history of owning sports cars I think there is a lot more on offer here.

I haven't had too much time to really hammer it in sport mode because of winter but when I first got the truck I took it on a familiar back road that I love ripping up and down. I've lapped it hundreds of times in my previous cars (X3 M40, BRZ, EVO VIII), and the R1T performed better than all of them by a wide margin. I expected it to be faster but the handling in sport low/lowest quite honestly blew me away. I can't believe how flat this thing is and how well it responds to steering inputs given its weight. A year ago I was shopping for M cars and today I couldn't be happier to be in a pick up truck instead. That sounds crazy, but the R1 is crazy impressive. With the R1T I can get the similar levels of enjoyment on those back roads and haul my motorcycles! Well worth the money for me, but I admit I'm not a typical truck guy.

I also want to give my two cents on the ride quality. My truck cam with 22s and I actually thought that something might be wrong with my suspension for a bit. It was very harsh and over rough road was quite unsettled. Then I put my winter wheels on which are 20s and the ride quality is worlds better. Low/Lowest is still very firm of course but I find it much more livable on 20s (275/60). So much so that I might run my 20s year round so I can enjoy sport lowest more often.

It's quite a bit quicker in Sport mode.

I use it to pass at times.
I'm with you on this in certain instances.

If I'm running conserve>low as an example, and am on a single lane highway/road and need to pass a group of cars, or even a semi before oncoming traffic impedes it, I'll switch to sport>low (cause that's how I typically have it defaulted) because it quickly re-engages the rear motors, gives me the performance to quickly pass a set of vehicles, and get back into my lane without suspension changes, etc.

On the above, it's kinda funny watching a pickup, or even most ICE vehicles for that matter, try to pass in the oncoming lane at speed while they're waiting for their engines get past the lag, drop a gear, rev up, then start to accelerate. Meanwhile their hopes of passing 2 vehicles, becomes maybe 1 before they have to merge. Then there's a jackass (this guy) in a Rivian filled with camping gear "55-See ya later" in a split second, passing a whole group of cars at once.

Good explanation.

Most legacy cars (ICE) are basically pylons that smell.

I do have both the quad and non performance dual and I'm thinking I will upgrade. The lack of rear motor engagement does bothers me a little bit after driving the quad for almost two years. I find myself taking the quad driving more than the dual . Plus. I'm tired of keep pressing "stability" reduced every time I use the dual :)

Right now the dual motor is clunky in all-purpose too. The last software patch introduced a clunk when the rear motor engages.

Fingers crossed that they fix it.
