im curious to know for those who've had their Rivian for at least 5-6 months, how much does it cost you to charge your Rivian per month and how many miles per month you drive?

with more and more BEVs being purchased, do you think utility companies are going to start charging more for electricity peak or not? wondering if we'll get to a point where the cost per mile won't be much different between ICE and BEV.

My employer provides free L2 charging which covers 100% of my energy needs for the R1T.

Before the free charging, I was paying roughly $35/mo to charge at home.

$0.11/kWH from my utility, but we have solar so effectively nil assuming we are caught up. I rarely charge outside of our home.

$0.12316 / kWHr for me.

I estimate it costs me ~$60 to go 1,000 miles. About 1/3rd the cost of my previous gas vehicle.

I pay 0.04/kWh between 10pm and 6am at home but I also have solar panels so don't pay anything 9-10 months a year. Total home electricity costs this year is about $300 for 2022.

On the road I have a lifetime of 118 EA sessions, 6,327 kWh totaling $1,039.36. This doesn't include a few Chargepoint stops and some other obscure chargers in Canada.

I have 28k miles in my R1T

I'm right around 10k miles. Utility rates at home and camp are a fraction over 0.13c/kWh. Home has solar, and up until Nov-Dec produced more than my home and vehicle consumption when there. The one EA charger I stop at between home and camp chargers per min. With the $4/mo pass, rates were .24c/min and as of yesterday are now .29c/min. They are extremely reliable (gasp, praise for EA), and with the speed it charges at a lower SOC, ends up being cheaper than the home 0.13c/kWh, so even though I don't have to stop, I do. And for a couple of months, they were complimentary every time I stopped.

I don't keep any long term records or obsess over it too much, but when I have done the math, it's worked out to what would be in the ballpark of 0.50c to $1/gallon gas equivalent for a truck that gets 20 mpg. And not many ICE trucks get that.

Everyone here quoting per kwh rates from provider are you using the rate at time of use or figuring out per kwh once taxes and fees are added?

My distribution and supply charges add up to about 11c perkwh but I average about 14c perkwh after taxes/fees, That 14c also includes peak rates etc. I'm taking bill total divided by total kwh in a month.

We charge almost exclusively at home (L2, 48A) during off-peak hours (12-6 am), at the lowest off-peak rate of $0.15 per kWh. Averaging about 1,175 kWh per month, or $176.25. (Our off peak rate went up from $0.10 at the start of this year.) Averaging about 2,000 miles per month. If my calcs are right, our fuel cost is about 1/3 of what it would be for a mid-size ICE SUV.

Yeah, I started doing that, too. My bill is a bit complicated. I have a net metered PV solar system with a Time of Use Plan.

Summer
On Peak - $0.27307/kWh
Off Peak - $0.06906/kWh

Winter
On Peak - $0.22178/kWh
Off Peak - $0.06810/kWh

I usually charge off peak, but I ironically should be charing on-peak because my PV system generates enough to give me on-peak credits, but I'm at work during on-peak hours. Then fees and taxes are numerous and confusing.

So, I started doing what @diehlryan suggested and it comes out to $0.109/kWh for all my electricity billed including taxes and fees.

The R1S is an electron hog (about 8c/mile) compared to our Model 3 (about 4c/mile).

Dang these electrical rates are LOW! Our all in kW cost is roughly $0.266 here in Mass with no break for any time of day. This truck is expensive to run at about 16c per mile. My Bronco Raptor is about 20c per mile at today’s sub $3 gas prices. How the tables have turned!

We have time of use rates. I'm just taking the charging session data from the Rivian app and multiplying the monthly kWh total by our "super off peak" rate for 12-6 am, which is when all our charging happens. Our on-peak (4-9 pm) and off-peak (everything else) rates are significantly higher, but usage during those periods is pretty low (and sometimes negative during off peak) because we have solar with net metering. Looking forward to V2H capability with the Rivian; hoping to eliminate on-peak utility usage someday. Our on-peak rate will be $0.82 per kWh this summer!

For 5 years up until COVID, I only charged at work for free. Now I work from home...the ability to charge at work for free was tempting, but not enough...I rather use my own electricity and stay at home.
