I do this in our other car, but wrap the ends in a microfiber towel. If it's heavy, sometimes I use an empty water bottle as an air cushion.

900 lbs of 4 x 4 tile.

Just for someone's future reference - with ratchet straps, you can haul an LG 83" TV for at least 40 miles without committing the forbidden act of lying it flat...
