Just came back to this thread and saw you added the video. Wow! Captured the incident perfectly.

As someone else said, funny there was at least one other Rivian around you. Glad they came back and traded info, more camera angles never hurt. I always hope if I'm involved in something similar, folks will do likewise.

Please keep us updated, am fearing they'll total it, as well. šŸ˜¢
Oh man, I hope they donā€™t total it. Bodyshop didnā€™t think so, but itā€™s not their call. Should have numbers later next week. šŸ¤ž

could just be glare. But very much looks to me like the other driver is holding a phone with bright screen as their airbag deployed.

Rivian R1T R1S Well, guess it was my turn. Hit by a red light runner. IMG_5816

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but my R1T got rear ended on the freeway yesterday too. The tailgate was punctured and dented along with some bumper damage. No terrible but surely will be costly to repair. The 2006 Tundra that hit me took some major damage with the front end crushed at least 1/3 of the way in.

My Rivian did not automatically take footage of the crash. Am I supposed to press the record button as soon as the incident occurs or was it supposed to record it automatically and it just didn't trigger?

The other vehicle and I both have State Farm and apparently if I want to use my own body shop I have to take the truck to a State Farm approved body shop for appraisal first. Any advice on this? I live in LA.

do you have the drive cam set up for incidents?

You will probably be limited to a Rivian collision shop. The ones I visited were also SF "preferred" shops.

the good news since the other driver has SF too is SF will refund you your deductible. They sent me a check about 2 months after the repairs on my R1S were completed.

I have it setup for incidents. Wonder why it didn't record. I have a SD drive and everything. Weird.

Unfortunately I'm not seeing any Rivian approved body shops on the State Farm list. I wonder what happens if the State Farm estimate ends up under pricing the Rivian body shop. I guess I'll have to ask State Farm on Monday.

chances are high the non-Rivian shop won't touch it. I even tried SF shops that do teslas, etc. Perhaps things have changed in a year but I had to take my S almost 3 hours away to the nearest Rivian shop.

Thanks for your help. I'm not even that heart broken about the accident. Just annoyed at having to go through the process of getting it fixed. Looks like it will be quite a process.

Did you take the card out and try reading it back in a computer? DriveCam footage doesn't show up on the car's infotainment system. (Incidents should, but if it didn't flag as an "incident" you'll probably need to pull the video files directly)

Itā€™s a tougher intersection to navigate than it seems on video. There are two left turn lanes, and the ā€˜linesā€™ that separate them through the radius are completely indistinguishable. It is common for the right lane to cut into the left, as well as the left to swing wide to the rightā€¦ so my defensive driving is making sure Iā€™m clearing anything the person in the left hand lane may do, and I provide space or adjustment as needed.
I grew up in PDX. What intersection is that? I can't quite tell from the video.

The R1T is one tough vehicle. Say hi to the people at Precision Auto body in beaverton. I've been their customer twice. That is if you're going to your R1 to a factory authorized service center. They do nice work, but it will take time.

Ok, that worked. Was able to find it on the stream recording but it didn't get marked as an incident.

Agreed.

Not related, but wouldn't be a bad idea to check - and get if you don't have - umbrella coverage. Especially if medical bills could pop up.

Umbrella coverage is also not super expensive and would help.

And a reminder for everyone to check / review their coverage every 6 months to ensure you have the coverage you need (Plus validate no discounts are missed etc, like defensive driver etc)

OP - we are glad you (and the other driver) are both okay.
I totally agree on the umbrella. We have an additional 2 million on top of the max limits on the car policy. It's only 150.00 per year. A sue-happy person and good lawyer can do a lot of financial damage. GAP is a good idea as well on a new vehicle with loans. You could find yourself upside down on a total.

Yeah i bumped by umbrella from 2 to 5M last month just in case (i also have few rentals under LLC so..). yearly premium is like $450. well worth it.

I was in the right of two left hand turn lanesā€¦ morning sun was in the oncoming driverā€™s eyes and he didnā€™t see the red light. Video tells the rest.

I gotta say, the R1T can take a hit and leave me nearly completely clueless that something happened. Felt more like a pothole than a Ford Transit Connectā€¦ šŸ˜‚

Iā€™m completely drivable, he is totaled. Fortunately he was OK, and I kept checking on him when he didnā€™t get out of his vehicle for a while.

Bottom line, itā€™s a beautiful blue-bird warm Oregon day, and everybody is ok. Itā€™s going to be alright.

EDITS;
- added Drive Cam footage (4/2/23 - 12:58pmPST)
- added focused footage of R1T damage, or lack thereof. (4/4/24 - 9:04amPST) - Quick assessment here: https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...n-hit-by-a-red-light-runner.25861/post-512907

Dumb question, does my RT-1 automatically record events like that shown or do I need to set it up to do so?

Intersection is in Clackamas: SE Sunnyside and SE Sunnybrook. I was travelling west and turning south, other driver was travelling east.

Yup, it's at Precision now! Met the guy working on my vehicle, oddly enough he has my same name... Kory vs Cory... don't run in to that very often. ;) Snapped a photo of my disassembled R1T face, will include!

First, you'll need a thumb drive or SSD plugged in to one of your center console USB-C ports. There are many threads on excellent options and products to do so. I used a microSD card used for surveillance recording, obviously did the trick for me.

Once that is in, more options will pop up, but your drivecam is enabled by default. It will occasionally automatically index what it thinks are events, such as when you honk your horn, brake hard, make and evasive maneuver, etc. You'll also have a small icon at the top-left of your center screen that will allow you to index anything on the fly as desired.

My truck automatically tagged this event.

Attached photo is my compact drivecam SD card setup
