That's what I'm saying. It's always up to date.
I’m saying I don’t care. The Rivian updates often enough for me that it’s a non issue.

I have a Tesla and have had the opportunity to test FSD.
It works well until it doesn't and that's a problem.

Are you talking about FSD or not talking about FSD?
"I am not talking about FSD at all."
"Most people perhaps may not know what FSD can do"
Tesla FSD. Somehow, the discussion digressed into it.

LOL, ok then. So that's cool, but meanwhile we've been stuck with old data many times which significantly impacted our trips. Old closures, missing closures, stale traffic data, and roads that don't exist. Lucky you.

Since we are LOLing I LOL at the assertion that the Rivian system is that far behind your beloved CarPlay. I’ve had issues using both google and Apple Maps recently but haven’t had any with Rivian’s so by your logic the Rivian is superior with directions.

Plus if I want to change my destination I need to pull over with CarPlay as it won’t let my passenger enter the information because I’m apparently a child who cannot determine when it’s safe to type on a screen and need it to be locked out.

I completely agree with you...but Rivian is also going to treat us as children when casting comes and they won't allow it in motion.

There’s a difference between watching videos on the main screen while driving and having a passenger enter in a destination for the nav IMO.

Trust people to use judgment when you agree but not when you don't agree. I get it...

I change destinations in my Tesla all the time (even while driving). I just use voice prompts "Navigate to..." No hands. I think Rivian is working on expanding voice prompts.

So you don’t see the difference in safety between watching TV while driving and having a passenger enter nav details? I suppose if you weren’t watching it you’d be just as safe.

I see it as a regulatory difference but I wouldn’t care if they allowed it. I’m fairly certain they are prevented from doing so by federal regulations though, whereas no one needs to lock the keypad out for those same rules.

I hate voice prompts. It doesn’t work well and I don’t want to talk to my car. I want my wife to be able to enter it on a keypad. In my experience the voice mishears too often and correcting it is more dangerous than just typing it correctly in the first place. Doubly so when my wife is typing from the passenger seat.

I change destinations in CarPlay while driving all the time, either by typing, or better yet, just by talking. Another huge advantage to CP, which I guess you don't understand since you're used to the Rivian garbage. Obviously the Alexa voice doesn't work, so you assume that CP is as bad (and it's not, voice is ultra reliable on it). Dispelling dumb myths and assumptions about CP is as bad as it is with anti-EV bullshit.

Keep talking though, I'm having a good laugh.

Tesla voice prompts work very well. They rarely get it wrong. Much easier than typing.
Just wait, Rivian voice prompts will improve.

Your point was passenger was typing and not driver. Exactly same as watching a video. Driver can also freely type a destination in a Rivian which I could argue is less safe than having some video running in their peripheral vision.

I don't believe there is any federal regulation preventing video from playing while in motion, but I could be wrong. A quick ChatGPT check tells me there isn't...but ChatGPT isn't perfect.

If there’s no rule against it they should let you. Telematics will tell if you had it on during a crash. Punish those who abuse it not those who can be responsible.
