I think it’s pretty well established that the large pack has roughly 135 kWh. Has anyone determined how many useable kWh there are in the large battery pack? I’ve seen #’s ranging from 128 kWh to 132 kWh. Maybe I missed it somewhere. It would be a nice number to know when calculating max range..

Seems to be 130kWh,from everything I've seen online or encountered personally with my own. There may be a few kWh reserve, but 130 bang on is what I calculate based on power used vs percentage.

You got about 4 hours to kill? Charge to 100%, reset a trip meter, take it to zero near a charger, and report back 👍

Took a drive up into the mountains, today. About 65 miles round trip with about 3000’ of elevation gain and a couple of miles of slow/rough offroad. Going up I was registering 1.4+miles/kWh. Coming back home it was off the chart on the high side, as the regen was working great! Started down the hill with 22% battery and 64 miles of projected range. By the time I got down the mountain and most of the way across my valley (say close to 30 miles from the top), I was at 20% battery and 58 miles of range! Oddly, as I was most of the way down the mountain, even though my batteries were down around 22%, I received an alert that the regen was being reduced. Don’t know what that was all about. Anyway, I ended up at 2.41 miles/kWh for the trip. Based on 130 kWh that works out to 313 miles of potential range 😊 I would love it if that was the norm, but I know it’s not.

I’m going over the Sierras and down to Sacramento, next week. My house is at 5000’. So, I’ll being going up to 8000’+ then dropping all the way down to Sac at just above sea level. Then, returning home to 5000’. Can’t wait to see how that mileage works out. I’m used to riding an E-MTB. The Rivian is just the same. You have a heart attack when you see your battery rapidly going away on those long climbs. But, not to worry. What goes up must come down and the down is almost free.

This unofficial page says 135 kWh usable, 141.1 kWh total. There was a software update at some point in the last year that increased usable capacity slightly:

Whoa! This reports a lot more useable battery than I have heard previously. I wonder if useable means for actually driving purposes or if some of that useable is reserved for other functions.

According to the Rivian's API, the vehicle reports a battery capacity of 127

Okay. I give up. 127, 128, 130, 132, 135 🤷🏼‍♂️
Well, to make things even less clear, the specifications stickered on the actual battery packs say 141 kWh.

Figures from EPA testing range from 128 to 130 kWh and change.

I tend to be on the conservative side and just use 125 for my number…. 🤷🏻

Edit:
Thought I would add, the guess-O-meter in the navigation has shown to be pretty decent over 10k miles, the longer I have my R1S the more comfortable I am using that.

Yeah, it‘s probably not the end of the world that the exact figure is not known. And, in spite of Riviot’s suggestion, I don’t plan to explore its absolute limits 😊 I was just curious.
