Upgrading / changing tire size requires service center visit (for engineering team to make change)

I know this will not come as a shock to anyone but it turns out that updating the tire size on your truck is tough. You gotta take it to the service center and they have to call it in to their off-site engineering team to request a change to your vehicle configuration. It's not quick.

Hopefully they'll give service centers the tools necessary to do this quickly, even better, they'd give us the tools to ourselves.

This needs to be user selectable. This will not work well for those of us who run summer / winter tires of different sizes.

User configurable on Tesla S.

Interesting. My delivery specialist mentioned that if I were to change wheel sizes that I would just need to call the Service line and that it could be done OTA. Not sure why the SC would have to get into the middleā€¦

It wasnā€™t user selectable on teslas for a while. Rivian will get there. Lots on their plate at moment.

I have a 2016 refresh S90D that I ordered with 19s and immediately bought a set of oem 21 turbines off eBay. (Got two sets of wheels and tires for less than what the turbines alone would have cost on the carā€¦and got a square setup so I could rotate, when you could only order staggered. Great deal overall.)

When I put them on initially I had to have Tesla service make the change (remotely, did not have to take it in). Now I can just make the change (from a bunch of options) in UI in vehicle. I donā€™t recall exactly when the feature got rolled out.

I am going to do the same exact thing with the R1T (and maybe future R1S). Bought 21s and will buy a set of 20ATs to swap back and forth.

It would be great if it was in the UI today but Iā€™m not concerned that it wonā€™t be in the relatively near future. Worst case in near term is open a ticket and they push the config change. Maybe as of this moment itā€™s a ā€˜you have to bring it inā€™ thing as everything and everyone is getting up to speedā€¦but they donā€™t want you to have to bring it in for that any more than you do.

Hopefully Iā€™m not being overly optimistic but my strong gut feel is thatā€™s how itā€™s going to play out.

That is kind of ridiculous, it's a truck, and it's super common to change tire sizes on a truck.

Just let us set a tire outer diameter within an allowable range (or at the very least let the service center reprogram it.)

Sounds like something that should be doable over the air without a visit. Eventually, add it to the GUI.

Or just have the truck compare GPS speed with tire speed, do a bit of math, and update the config automatically.

Is it ridiculous? Other than Tesla, what manufactures allow you to specify a new tire size in the UI?

I have mentioned this a couple of time to my friends that work at the Venice Hub and the last time (June) they told me that they saw this on a list of items intended to be user driven in the vehicle for a future OTA.

I care about this in Colorado because I intend to run 22" tires for road trips in the summer and beefy 20" for snow in the winter.

It will eventually be an OTA update for user switch or easier, but for all those that say "It's a truck" it's a little more complicated than your typical ICE truck.

There are a lot of people that change wheel sizes on trucks and then never properly adjust their speedometers also.

I prefer the modern tech that will optimize my performance and range by knowing what tires and wheels I'm running.

I had to buy a programmer and a bypass cable to reprogram the tire size on my own in my 2020 Ram. The only silver lining is it allows me to change other software related items. Some that even the dealer can't change.

Has anyone actually got their car reprogrammed by Rivian for different wheel sizes? I have a set of wheels Iā€™m waiting to put on until I can get the reprogram but I assume they are swamped right now and itā€™s not their priority. Just wondering how bad my speedometer will be off switching from 21 to 20ā€ all terrains.

Here is a site that will help you calculate the speedo difference - https://tiresize.com/calculator/

Not yet sure if there is an air suspension leveling difference based on tire size but I doubt it. Folks could measure in various wheel configs and post

Employees at the Denver SC told me for now it has to go through them and corporate has to program something on their end but in the future it will be able to be done remotely.

I'm getting my 20" ATs swapped to the 21" ASs in 2 weeks for a long road trip after I go 4x4ing next weekend. I'll report back on how it goes. SC told me it's a pretty quick swap once approved.

Did it happen for you? Iā€™m still waiting for Rivian to let me know about swapping my config.
