I know nothing about audio, but if someone finds a direct replacement sub that I can swap out without messing with a new amp, I'm willing to give it a shot.

Interesting... Thought I saw the R1T had some small oval sub...Stock sub
Exactly. Different drivers between the vehicles or is that a non-Meridian design. It does, this is from the R1S (just took the picture on the R1T tailgate
Now I'm really curious, can you also post a pic of the interior trim covering that sub? I'm curious if the interior panel has changed from the R1S Meridian system. This is from the non-meridian system
Without actually taking anything apart, it appears my Meridian branded system has the same 10" sub pictured above by the OP, it's just behind a mesh grill that is about 6.125x11.5 (which had me wondering if the Meridian system in the R1S might be using the same oval sub as the R1T, but it isn't).Now I'm really curious, can you also post a pic of the interior trim covering that sub? I'm curious if the interior panel has changed from the R1S Meridian system.
What about the new sub with the stock amp? Curious if that alone makes any difference.I did use the new amp with the stock sub.
Aren’t those speaker-level inputs then? The wires going into the stock sub.
this has been on my mind as well... hope to hear more from folks who've already done it. I'm a stickler for good sound and wasn't all that jazzed (pun intended) by what I heard in my first-mile drive.pretty cool mod, curious to see if people do any other aftermarket stereo upgrades
