Probably one of my worst ideas and overkill. Ran pre out lines from amplifier to a jamo s810 10 inch subwoofer (was on sale for $80 on adoroma 2 weeks ago). Powered from the 120V plug which requires me to switch on/off. Fits perfectly between the liftgate and rear space raised edge. I suspect I won't be able to push back the 3rd seat. My initial plan was to place this in the 3rd row leg well, however it was larger than expected

Yeah..... no. Just no.

I mean, props for doing something different. But it's wrong, all wrong.

I like the idea of using the 120V outlet to just drop in a home theater sub into the trunk! :) Certainly not the cleanest solution, but for certain use cases, it can be the 'best' solution. :p

What's that?
Hello ladies, I’m new here.
And like all of who end up here I’m looking to improve the sound quality on my R1S.
I traded my BMW X7 with B&W system where I had nice deep bass at a lower sound volume. I’m not looking to upgrade the sub on the R1S to send sound ripple effects out of space but something similar to system I’ve had. Bass on R1S is practically none existent until you crank the volume over 25.
I have the none Meridian system and I just ordered Meridian side door woofers and for the back woofer I was planing to also replace it with the Meridian sub speaker - direct replacement and hope to improve the aound
is anyone here upgraded/upgrading Meridian to an aftermarket speakers? If yes, do you listen your music over level 20 or below?
Also, any of you fine gentlemen use TIDAL for streaming your music?

Just FYI. They used Meridian speakers in the non-Meridian vehicle for while, if you have not verified. Mine is post Meridian and I have seen maybe 5 or 6 drivers, and they all have Meridian labels on them.

I was just reading through this older thread, as I'm working on an upgrade myself, and Lo! someone else posted in it today as well.

I was hoping some of the more expert car audio folks could opine on a system I'm considering getting installed from my local sound shop. They claim they've done lots of Teslas and some Rivians before, but this was an initial discussion and the head installer wasn't there, so I'll need to bring the car by for a much closer look. Will also rely on the learnings from this and other similar threads. I don't want to brick the car if I can avoid it.

Anyway, here's the first cut of some of the equipment we were discussing. This is a rough draft WIP, especially the sub given the installer has not had a chance to take a look at the car, but for now would love opinions or feedback from those in the know about some of these choices, including whether they make sense in an R1S:

Focal PS165 FXE fronts
Focal PS165 V1 rears
JL RD900/5 900w Amp
ACO LC5i Pro 5 channel line out converter
JL CS112TG-TW3 12" box -- likely to change / need to customize fit in spare well
JL RBC-1 bass control -- also sub. to change

Thanks!

I got my R1S two weeks ago, and it came with none Meridian sound system. Has anyone confirmed that the Meridian subwoofer is more noticeable at low volume settings?

I exaggerated with my volume numbers in my previous post. In most cases, I listen to music at a volume between 4 and 8. I don’t feel or hear the deep bass as I did with the B&W system in my BMW. I’m trying to understand if upgrading all the Rivian speakers to Meridian, including the subwoofer, will result in better sound quality.

Or .... maybe I won't! Here's a tale of one who tried and failed a similar complete overhaul in an R1T as a result of ultimately unresolvable error codes:

Maybe in the next Q&A, someone should ask Wassym why Rivian loves subpar audio just for a laugh. (I kid, but sheesh.)

When I took the rear panel apart to swap the subwoofer, both the rear tweeter and subwoofer have meridian labels although my R1S has elevation sound system.

I use a bowl EQ for better bass and the first two bands are your best bet. I don't think swapping the speakers or subwoofer without an amplifier and or loc will solve your problem.

I'm pretty happy with the swap and amp others did on this thread. (I added an additional subwoofer via line out and 120V because I'm a psychopath) This isn't tuned well and I'm constantly adjusting but part of the game.

Welp, that’s disappointing.

Dolby Atmos and spatial audio destroys the deep bass from my subwoofer mods. It's cool to hear the different channels and the stage is more forward focused. I'll have to mess around with the settings and EQ if anyone else has advice. Used a bowl custom EQ.

Super weird the replaced subwoofer has no output. I have a pre out to a plugged in subwoofer which has some output but it's non existent too.

It must be some Dolby Atmos object vs channel thing. I had something similar on my home audio system but gave up.

First world bass head problems, hope everyone enjoys their set up! I use tidal and youtube music so doesn't matter to me.

My local installer recommended a JL audio sealed enclosure subwoofer, it’s a wedge shape, will fit on top of spare tire in my R1S, with a amp added along side of spare tire area, I have the spare tire already and the only sub that will fit has a edge shaped box that is usually used behind seats in trucks, only caveat is that the very back section of trunk area, the cover will have to sit at the slight angle that’s created when you make it flush with the rest of rear storage area. He said when he just replaced the sub in original location on another rivian there was still lot of vibrations, even with lots of sound deadening material, will update after installation with pics, scheduled in a couple weeks
Other option would be a custom box, but I think the existing ones are very well made to get best sound out of subwoofer, will be a 12 inch sub
