IIRC it is the narrowest point in the 3rd row per the SAE standard, which should be the further inward point arm rest in your second picture.

The first picture was from the LA Auto show, or around that time period. To the data I linked to earlier was apparently provided by CS a few months ago. I would suggest reading through that linked thread, we discussed the dimensions quit a bit in there.. also I recall a dedicated thread on fitting sheet goods, on my phone atm so not that easy to search for. When I get back to a computer I'll link to it.

Some more food for thought, just going by your second picture, you can think of the floor space available as the total width of the 3rd row. Is there at least 48 inches there? I would guess not.
I found the thread, I will check it out. As the last act of resistance to you trying to crush my dreams, It appears to me the opening is wide enough you to get the plywood in. The arm rests seem to be the main potential problem. They don’t seem to be large enough and at the right location for wheels so I am thinking they have no reason to be there for 5 seater R1S (which is my selection). I remain hopeful. I may start my own don’t look up campaign (Reference to Netflix film).

Edit: worse comes to worse, I will rig something up to raise the floor and go over the armrest.

I emailed customer service to ask them if the promised notifications of vehicle deliveries by the “end of the year” were meant for Launch edition holders only. This was their reply:

”Now that production and deliveries are beginning to ramp up, we will be sending out an updated delivery window to all Adventure & Explore preorder holders like yourself by the end of the year to help with planning purposes.”

Great news!
Thank you for this appreciated confirmation:)

I finally broke down and bought a new ICE truck. I can’t express my frustration and disappointment “anger” with Rivian and their deliberate string everyone along program. Beginning to think I should dump the stock. The company is going nowhere and on borrowed time. I had thought about changing to the R1S and see how that goes, but every time I think of doing it I think I should just get my deposit back and move on.

I would still keep your spot in line and get the Rivian when it's ready. if you like it - sell the ICE truck. If you don't - there will be a long line of people ready to buy your Rivian and probably for well over sticker.

Yeah I missed the launch edition as well. And I have no plans other than to drive and enjoy my R1T when I get it, but I have a long list of colleagues in LA willing to throw money at me if I wanted to sell it. (which, to be 1000% clear I would not :)

Hahaha. the company is going nowhere? Why did you buy any stock if you think that? I do think you should just move on if you are expecting a new car company to deliver on time or anything close to that. Good luck with you ICE truck, I'm sad to see another polluting car on the roads.

I also bought a hybrid truck and am well satisfied with it as I wait the next two years plus for my R1T. Ordered sep 2021. Trade in value for the hybrid truck should be decent. Needed a truck….

Thanks for sharing that info. Are you sure W201 refers to the floor not top of the opening in the back? If pathfinder can do it at $25K less, R1S should too. That would be a bummer if this is true. If R1S is on the same platform as R1T, they should be able to make it work.

OK now that I am done with kicking and screening, I should note the post you shared is from the time the photo bellow was circulating. If you pay attention to the interior sides, it is much narrower that the R1S RJ just received. I remain hopeful production R1S is plywood friendly and anxiously waiting for the first real owner feedback.

How often do y’all haul ply? Making it seem like this is a daily activity. When I get my R1S and need ply, I will be driving to the Depot, parking, renting a $20 beater truck for an hour to get it home and then returning to switch back. Then I might repeat that once a year for the 8 years I own the vehicle. So $160 over 8 years or ripped interior to fix? Tough choice. What type of barbarian would put splintery ply in an $80K vehicle? I kinda hope a sheet won’t fit so y’all don’t even try!

If I wanted to play the how often game, I wouldn’t be buying an inefficient $80K vehicle to begin with. This thing is all about the things it can do but you shouldn’t and you probably never will.

So you are concerned over whether it will fit, but might never actually haul any ply?

On a similar note, does anyone know if 2 miniature ponies can fit behind the second row? Not planning on it, but can’t be too careful in case I start a petting zoo.

i think you can make it work. Here’s a pic of one pony in the back, with PLENTY of room for a second friend!
