UPDATE FROM FIRST USE:

Took the Travel Kitchen on it's maiden voyage last night, much more scenic than our garage.

This is at a campsite at Horsetooth Reservoir in Ft. Collins, CO. The kitchen worked great (leveling issues aside), nice to have everything sort of self contained and we especially appreciated the "counter space" that it provides.

ORIGINAL POST

Anyone else get their camp kitchen today?

We went to test our fancy new, overpriced travel kitchen onto the tailgate of our fancy, new(ish), overpriced R1S but it's not even close to level front to back when the stability foot is deployed.

1. Parked in my garage
2. Camp Mode on, R1S leveled
3. I triple double checked the alignment of the slots in the bottom of the kitchen to the latch on the tailgate.

It's level left to right

However, it is really sloped from the rear towards the front of the R1S

What am I missing? Anyone else have the same issue?

Is the tailgate level without the kitchen on it? Is the tailgate level when you sit on it?

Rather than this being a problem with the kitchen or with the vehicle's ability to level itself, I would not be surprised at all if the tailgate is just not parallel with the vehicle's frame.

My tailgate quite clearly moves when I put weight on it. Only one cable is taught initially, but both sides become tight when weight is added. So weight is causing it to twist. If my tailgate was perfectly level with no weight on it, then it definitely would not be after putting something on it. I complained to Rivian, they say it's normal.

I have no idea as I don't have my overpriced kitchen yet, but from looking at the manual, can you adjust the stability foot to make it level?

Played around with it quite a bit but no real adjustability

The car is level at the door sills, harder to say on the tailgate. Interesting thought about putting a little of my "road hugging weight" on the tailgate to see if I can drop it a bit.

Mine was scheduled for delivery via UPS today but it appears Rivian stopped it and requested it to return to sender. Only guess is it’s defective or damaged in shipping.

Probably saw this post and realized they all have this defect.

Same for me... it was on the truck a block away and then said sender requested a return

I did contact Rivian yesterday and sent pics at their request. I'd be amazed they could make the decision to recall these so quickly...but maybe?

It seems like the stability foot is just too 'tall' when deployed.

they're still for sale on the website, you'd think if there was some urgent issue they'd stop selling them. stopping shipments seems pretty drastic though. mine now says it'll be delivered Friday

That's interesting. I ordered on "launch day." Not right away, but maybe 2-3 hours after ordering opened up. It's an overpriced birthday present to myself :)

I have a label created with UPS but it hasn't shipped yet. I was guessing I was in the 2nd batch of shipments but sender requesting a return is odd.

I'm sure more info will trickle out soon enough.

BTW - @canyonero, fantastic username!
