I don't know how accurate that is compared to Dragy. Dragy has typically bee within a few hundredths of my times at a track.

If you can do some other runs, at the others speeds, that would be helpful.

That's great that you find value in sport mode. Having the new mode can be viewed 2 ways, a product you have and love, has just became better (positive look) or The car always had this ability and the company locked it behind a pay wall (negative view)

I would say most people wont find it to be a value, have $5K burning a hole in their pocket, or the novelty of it will wear off. I've had it for 1 year and i never leave AP mode.

A dual max performance is like $102K , at that point just get the tri with the nicer interior and better resell value at $110K. It's all too rich for my blood. I have a Gen 1 DMP at pre-order pricing, and driving this at least until the end of the warranty period and hopefully beyond.

90% of people should buy a dual standard and charge to 100% daily , 5% should get a Dual Large, 3% should get Dual Max the other 2% are crazy people (pulled those % outta my arse). Very few should be upgrading from a gen 1 to gen 2
The Dual Max Performance has the $5k option. So, I don’t understand case regarding the value of the Performance upgrade that if you’re going to spend $5,000 you may as well spend $13,000. I’m not arguing. Just seeking to understand the relative value point. I assume there is more value per dollar with the Tri?

The Tri (and G1 quad) will be almost as fast in AP mode as the performance dual motor is in sport. For the tri in sport mode, it is substantially quicker. The tri also has a nicer interior.

The value is someone like me that bought a dual motor a year ago for $81k. I don’t have to trade in my truck, get maybe $51k trade value to buy a tri-motor that costs $105k for what is essentially the same truck but more HP.

Not worth $54k right now at least just for that.

Instead, for $5k I can get most of the speed/torque and Rivian gets to book revenue with basically zero cost of goods.

Is it worth it? To some it is, others not.

I’m with you. I didn’t understand the idea that if you’re buying a truck and spending an extra $5k you might as well spend $13k. And your case of $54k is pretty clear.

Totally agree about the value vs. just upgrading to Tri or Quad.

I had the preorder discount voucher for 20% off, wanted a Gen2, and was only able to get a DM Max before the discount expired. I couldn’t find a PDM in the config I wanted, so I bought a DM and hoped that they would follow through on releasing this upgrade.

Since the coupon wasn’t usable for Tri or Quad, the price difference in waiting for one of those was more like $28K, not $8K, vs a PDM. (Totally fair of them to limit the coupons — I thought it was generous that they allowed them to be used for Gen2 at all.)

Of course, now I’m not sure if it’s worth buying, but at least it’s an option…

Interestingly, Rivian just sent out an email claiming that 0-60 in All-Purpose mode is faster with the upgrade.

This is the first I’ve heard of this — makes me a bit more inclined to upgrade (Gen2 R1S DM Max).

Perhaps I missed in the comments earlier in this thread, but it looks like the post-delivery $5k Performance upgrade adds adds drive modes that are not part of the as-delivered Performance Dual Motor package.

As far as I can tell, my PDM (Large pack) has only three drive modes (AP, Snow and Sport), not the six shown above. Is this because my R1T is a Gen 1? That kinda sucks since the upgrade cost ($5k) is(was) the same.

I used my pre-order voucher (20%) in April 2024 when they announced that the voucher would expire in September and the factory was shutting down. My must haves where green, w/ ocean Coast dark ash and 22s. Standard+ w/ performance or large without performance.

I couldn't be happier with my choice. No regrets , not getting a Gen 2.

Gen 1 Standard+ w/ the Performance upgrade was such a good spec. Not sure we’ll ever see something similar again. I also chose the same as well and plan to own this vehicle for a long time. 🤙

Took a Gen 2 R1S Tri-Motor for a spin today while my Gen 1 Dual-Motor Performance got its FSAM-1507 nuts twisted.

The interior? Fancy.
The ride? Pretty much the same. Add my Gen 1 dual.
The extra power? Oh yeah, that was fun.

But would I upgrade? Nope—Dual is still the sweet spot.

Also, gen 2... these door buttons are straight-up dumb.

The stock PDM (from the factory) has five drive modes - AP, snow, sport, all terrain and soft sand. The recent software update added Rally mode. It just looks like you have three now because they’ve added an off road tab for the other three modes. You basically got rally mode for free with the last update.

The unlock is a tricky question but then I bought a tune for my Audi Quattro to bump it from 310hp to 440hp. The power was always "there." Just required the boost controller not to bleed off boost above 4000rpm. But it wasn't $5K either. I think I spent $1000 and it's only $550 now.

I think it is a great option. For me I had 2 Teslas that I unlocked acceleration boost. The first, a Y long range, I waited about 2 months after buying the car. The second, a 3 long range, I added it the second day I owned the car. At $2k for the upgrade it was significantly less but in each case they did trim at least a half second off the 0-60 time.

For me it was worth it as I get extra performance, close enough to the performance models that I basically saved $8k by going with a long range instead of the performance model which had wheels and tires I didn't like anyway. Factor in a full factory warranty and it was an easy decision, at $2k.

At $5k, it is a little more expensive but I'd still probably do it. If this had been an option, I might have seriously considered buying a Gen2 dual max if I knew there was an upgrade path to more performance. I'd be curious to see how much improvement there is in AP mode.

If I could drop $5k on my quad and see a reduction of about a half second in its 0-60 time, I do it in a second. ;)
