Upcoming Gen 2 R1S incentives? Order now or wait it out?

From now (end of Q3 / Sept) until the end of the year, do you think there will be more incentives?

Well, it’s now December. I think everyone was expecting more aggressive incentives this month. However, the imminent demise of the Ev credit is probably already giving Rivian a large boost in sales. Rivian may calculate that their sales volume is already more than adequate and decline to offer any further discounts for the year. The combination of the Hybrid/Gas deal with the EV credits ($10500 total saving) in Nov may have been the best deal we’ll see for a while. Of course there is still the $3500 loyalty bonus for current Rivian owners so there is still time for those trading up to Gen 2 or adding another Rivian.

Anecdotally, it does seem that inventory on Rivian Roamer is on the low side right now. I’ve been watching it for a few months and typically the inventory of R1S models is in the 800-1000 range. I know it’s not really a true inventory count, but it is worth noting it’s below 700 now.
I'd wait at least until Monday/Tuesday before making a definitive statement like this. December 1st falling on a Sunday, and no new incentives announced could be just due to the weekend.

Well, Rivian is advertising a “Lease Offer” on their site:

However, it’s really no offer at all as they’re just bating you with with what is a normally priced, totally stripped down Dual with a Max battery at the same lease rates as everything else (over 8% APR.)

As of 12:40 PST it’s showing no longer available. Earlier Quad listings did go much faster…..

If Rivian re-introduced the $3K incentive that expired Nov 30th and allowed former Rivian owners access to the $3500 loyalty offer I would pick out an inventory Gen2 R1S immediately.

Are sales so good that Rivian doesn't need incentives? I seriously doubt it.

Appears sales must be doing well. Very surprising they haven’t added any new incentives this month!

Who knows what's really going on, but perhaps they just don't have as much inventory as they've had in previous quarters due to the supply chain problems, and they think that the possibility of the $7500 tax credit going away next year is enough incentive to sell their limited inventory.

I drove by the Brooklyn delivery/service station. I spoke with someone inside, and they have a lot of cars sitting there that are not sold. Some still have the separate dynamic Glass roof, not the combined Sound + Vision Package.

I was waiting for more incentives. I even offered to buy one if they honored the $3k ICE incentive. They turned it down.

I seriously think Rivian has a sales problem. I posted elsewhere a demo R1S from April 2024 is still for sale today. Shareholders are going to crush this stock when Q4 sales figures are released.

If they had a sales problem, don't you think they would increase incentives to bridge the gap with their sales targets? One could argue maybe they are selling enough Gen 2s to not be worried.

You would think a smart carmaker would do that... but we have an example (cough Stellantis) who did not and remained stubborn and blamed external factors. Honestly, if Rivian's sales do not grow rapidly in Q1... they are toast. You can make excuses for Q4 due to supply issues... but at some point you need to be worried about how slow R1T (and R1S) sales are. Are they hoping R2 saves them?Yeah.... remember how many folks reserved the CyberTruck and were ga-ga over the ID.Buzz?

Yup fair point.

Also, on a slightly different topic....what are the current incentives available? $3500 loyalty/conquest and $750 referral? So total of $4250? Is that right?

The current incentives are:
1)$3500 loyalty
2)$7500 EV credit from the government that Rivian is passing on a lease transaction, or alternatively a $3750 tax credit that goes direct to the person on a purchase transaction but has lots of income/vehicle-type and price stipulations
3)$750 referral credit + 6 months of free charging

Note that there is no longer any "conquest" incentive. The "Electric Upgrade" offer that gave $3k if you owned an ICE has expired at the end of November and has not been renewed.
