Calling all campers / RV enthusiasts out there:

I recently decided to cancel the purchase of a 4x4 Sprinter van because I figure I'll be better off getting an R1T and adding some kind of optional camping solution. (Hard to park Sprinters in the grocery store parking lot...)

The Rivian-Yakima tent looks cool but I'd like to consider more substantial (i.e. hard-sided) solutions, given that I have the storage space. Towing a teardrop should be a breeze for the Rivian but wondering if anyone has considered the slide-in truck campers? I think they tend to be pretty heavy, so maybe that rules them out as an option?

Truck campers seem like they could be more hassle than they're worth, given the difficulty in getting them off/on as compared to a teardrop, but please enlighten me if you've done this research. Also, what teardrops do folks like? Seems like a lot of new/cool ones are on the market these days. (Timberleaf, Mean Bean, Polydrop, Vintage Overland, Escape Pod, TAXA, etc...)

Truck campers are heavy & not the easiest to put in & take out. My advice is definitely a small trailer, and the Intech Flyers are pretty popular in the Jeep community. You can load them up with gear, bikes, etc like a cargo trailer, then unload & sleep in them...

All depends on what you want though, there's a lot of options.

oh boy some neat rabbit hole browsing here. Ive seen t@bs around in our area and definitely fell in love with them. Pricey but the build quality is apparently top notch

Some great stuff in here. Thanks for sharing. I need to do a little measuring to determine exactly how much space I have to park this trailer -- some of these are pretty big. And I failed to mention that it's just me and the wife. Oh and two not tiny dogs.

So this is one of the main reasons that I am getting the R1T. I have done A LOT of research on campers/trailers. Here is my list of what I am looking at, but there are definitely a lot more out there than what I have below. My #1 choice is the Boreas XT-12 (not out yet) because it has a full-time bed, shower & toilet, outside cooking area, believe 4 season ready, and a huge 280-degree awning.

I agree with going the route of a trailer with all its facilities readily available. Having dealt with too many windy nights in the desert, I would lean away from a trailer that has pop-up or out fabric portions. Also it is so nice to be able to pull over and step into the trailer for lunch or a bathroom break (or while charging!) The airstream looks the sleekest of the non-convertible trailers and would have a lower impact on range. It also seems that the high profile of truck campers can have about as much impact on efficiency as towing a smaller trailer.

Unfortunately our current trailer will be much worse for range, but we needed space for 3 kids and we didn't want to always turn the table into a bed. We previously had a trail manor and knew we didn't want to have to expand/collapse any part of the trailer.

Yeah. They have six models now Including 2 retractables. They’re built to order and have about an 18 month wait.
