11.2 on an unprepared surface with no rollout is significantly faster than the gen 1 quad. Everyone including Rivian is pitching the tri as = to the gen 1 quad and the gen 2 quad as this big leap over the tri but i dont think that will be the case. From what I have read the gen 2 tri and quad will share the same motors in the rear so basicly the quad is just getting 200hp more in the front. From an on pavement preformance perspective this will not make much of a differnece and some might argue is not even better as the power split to the back is just about right on the Tri. I have a gen 2 quad preordered. taking price out of the equation, I am still more and more tempted every day to pull the trigger on the Tri as I think it truly might be a more fun truck for spirited driving than the quad. Did you all know that the current gen 1 quad reduces power to the front motors in sport mode to make it more rear bias?

There is a fairly recent thread about drag times, and it mentions that the quad doesn't give full power above 60. The speculation was to create a rear-wheel power bias. I have a tri and previously had a Gen 1 quad. I can tell you that the Tri feels much faster than the Gen 1 Quad. That rear wheel bias makes the Tri feel like a rocket ship and I can believe the faster 1/4 time.

15 minutes of blabbing for a 12 second event illustrates everything that is wrong with Youtube and typical effluencers.

Launching the Rivian on dirt and even sand is just an incredible feeling, even in the group of us that have driven a lot of high dollar dedicated machines.

5% closer to pulling the trigger on the Tri

The Tri also has launch mode same as the quad. I just made a post on how to turn it on.
Can you drive the truck around in launch mode? Silly question I know but what I mean by this is say after you launch (or posibly dont) will it stay in this mode. enabling the higher Vmax and posibly any power it takes off the table in other modes? Can you enable launch mode while moving ?

Any chance you have tested the top speed when not in launch mode? I know they say it is limited to the same 111 ish but I was hopefull that maybe they just let it slide and we would always get the 130 something.

Thanks.

If you’re in sport and you put it in launch it will stay in that mode while driving but it won’t actuate until you’re stopped completely.

Driver said "120" during his run. If a gen1 quad wasn't speed limited at 110 mph, it'd probably be quite similar. The Max pack probably makes the difference compared to the original quad, since the voltage won't sag as much under load.

The answers are No, No, and No. You cannot drive around in launch mode, cannot enable it while moving, and cannot go above 110 mph top speed when not in it. I have tested top speed already.

Thank you for the straight forward answers. This is disappointing for me as long term I was actually interested in trying to do something like the pikes peak hill clime that Rivian did or possibly even get a custom big break kit and just give the truck a go on a track but unfortunately 110 is just too slow for that. Obviously Rivian can do it because the hill climb the did exceeded 110.

Also let’s be honest some of us buying The “quickest” truck/suv ever made just don’t like the underlying feeling that 95% of the vehicles on the road are technically “faster”

But it sure looks good on paper... /s

Even less of a compelling reason to upgrade from a Gen1 quad. I'd love to see what the times are with and without launch mode on a non-prepped surface. As I've mentioned elsewhere, my Plaid losses about a tenth when not using launch mode.

The Tri was just dropping when I was debating between a used Gen1 quad and a new Tri or waiting for the new quad. I needed to buy in 2024 for tax purposes. So that pretty much eliminated the new quad from contention. The delta between a used Gen1 quad and a new Tri was over 50k when I was looking. For basically the same performance, it made no sense to go with the Tri.

So in the back of my mind (I didn't want to verbalize it around my wife), I thought I'd buy the G1 quad now, get the tax break I needed. It would likely tide me over until the G2 quad actually was available, and I see how I liked the platform overall. Given the limitation of launch mode, it appears it was an even better decision to skip on the Tri and it may totally remove the G2 quad from consideration.

Runs with and without launch control, back to back, would be helpful for me. That 110 speed limiter is still an issue. I too thought of tracking the truck. The G1 quad gets there fairly quickly as it is.
