What was your average speed while towing and what tires were you on? I towed an open car hauler 1000 miles and only saw 1.2 mi/kWh average, but as bad as 1.0 and as good as 1.44 mi/kWh...but I have a quad on ATs and was towing 70-80 mph on the highway and around 4700 lbs.

Towed at mph I have towed all my trailers (28ft Lance, 24ft Rockwood, 16ft Basecamp), with all my ICE trucks (Silverado LTZ, F150 Powerboat): 63 mph. Seems to be 'sweet spot' for ICE towing, around 2000 RPM's , low turbo boost on the Ford. Of course going through the Rockies, boost is unavoidable.

Tires: 21 inch All Season.

Great stuff! And great efficiency. Airstream really has that down to a science.

I was going to say it's all heresay without AT LEAST one pic of the rig! :CWL:

Nice shot with the rainbow in the back there. How do you like the Basecamp? I've toyed with the idea of maybe going that routs at some point.

Thanks for the stats and the writeup!

The Basecamp is a 2020. Model years before and after have had their issues. Mine has the Truma heating system (heating and hot water heater), which is great, no problems. Airstream has changed to a different system with a tankless, on demand hot water heater. This system was in the Airstream Nest (fiberglass trailer), which I owned. It sucked. I went from a 24ft trailer (not AS), then 28ft (not AS), then 16ft (AS Nest), then current Basecamp. You adjust to the reduced space and storage. My wife wants to prepare her own food while on the road. I would just as soon stay in a hotel. The Basecamp is just used for 2 trips to the west coast a year and down to Tucson for the winter and back to ND after Easter.

Nov 1st. Perfect time to return to Tucson after another long hot summer. Today is the first day after 113 days Phoenix fell below 100 degrees high temp. Another record.

Do not know if the Flated topper helped.

I can pretty confidently say it helps. The air coming down over most truck beds creates some pretty dirty air that most trailers then hit. Have any threads discussing your topper?

No, I have no threads. Works for me at about 1/4 the cost of a fiberglass topper. My wife can put it on and remove it.

At similar speeds I am getting about 1.20 - 1.25 m/kWh with my 20' Flying Cloud behind my Quad Large 20" AT.

I've considered pulling off a few things that stick out and adding some skirting to smooth out the underbody... but now I'm wondering if I should change to all seasons (eyeing up the Michelin Defender LTX M/S2) and add a topper instead - would be easier!

Have you tried putting bikes over the tailgate with that topper on?
