I did a relatively short vehicle tow this week and thought I would share my experience.

Vehicle is a 2024 R1T dual motor large pack. Weather was surprisingly nice, a pleasant 38 degrees almost the whole time. I picked up a u-haul vehicle trailer near Chicago and drove it up to Milwaukee area, which I took the highway and averaged about 1.5 miles per kw. The Rivian estimated the weight at 1500-2000 lbs, and I was averaging between 65 and 70mph.

Once I got up to Milwaukee, I picked up a 2004 Buick LeSabre and towed it about 70 miles back. Estimated weight was 4500 lbs according to the Rivian. I decided to stay off the highway this time and I took side roads (45-55 mph average). It was about 30 mins of a longer route, but I averaged about 1.8 mi/kw on the way back! I had way more battery left when I got back and I was pleasantly surprised.

In total I did a total of 150 miles of towing, and used about 65% of my battery total. Not nearly as bad as I thought I was going to use. Just in case you ask... I couldn't even tell I was towing anything. This truck handles the weight like a champ.

Those look like really good numbers to me.

I have the same truck, identical. I towed a golfcart on a 6x12 utility trailer 197 miles, and had 1.3 mi/kwh at the end. Backroads and very little interstate. 2,000 - 2,500 lbs. Coming back, empty trailer, same route, 1,500 lbs and I had 1.6 mi/kwh. Truck towed like a champ. I had to stop once to charge on each leg. The SC had plenty of room, and I pulled in parallel to the curb and took the first stall.

One thing people may not realize is that when you tow with this truck config, both motors stay active all the time. The rear motor doesn't cut out. It's a solid ride.
