Rotated every 5-7k and just over the 40k mark on my stock 21 tires… they are nearing end of life and got a set of the stock 20’s that I’ll be putting all seasons on to match my 21” diameter! Your alignment is way off to be through those tires that quickly… hopefully Rivian does the right thing if they can!

10,000km is like 100,000 miles, right? 🤔
He uses an analogous conversion for speed… just add a 0 when driving in Canada and Mexico! ;)

14400mi r1s 1 gen on 21’ here and more than half the initial thread left, they were rotated once at 8k miles. Driving in conserve and all purpose half / half but always in std height, auto mode deactivated to avoid low level on highway which is uncomfortable and chews tires i was told…. Fingers crossed they last at least 30k miles. I found the 21 pirelli did great in snow Last year in rochester NY area. Maybe our alignment is great :) might get Michelin next…

Please see the BC law info at
https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/...inter-driving/winter-tire-and-chain-up-routes

M+S is acceptable without chains. Switching to Michelin Defender LTX M/S 2 275/55R21/XL 116H on your existing tires will be cheaper than getting new 20" wheels and tires.
https://www.michelinman.com/auto/br...24/rivian/r1s/Adventure/275---55R21---XL-116H

It depends on where you wish to drive to in Winter and whether you will go in the worst conditions.

Whichever tire you choose, I concur with many others and highly recommend that you get the alignment checked before putting klicks on your new tires. If alignment is significantly off I believe you may have a case for a claim against Rivian, but they could always claim you hit a pothole after purchase.

Take care.

That's too bad :( I am also in North Van and have been using the 21s since I took delivery in March of 2023. I have about 20-25,000 kms on them, and I checked tread depth yesterday and they have about 65% left, which makes me think others are possibly right - you could have an alignment issue (which others on here have experienced too). The other big culprits as others have said are Conserve mode which you mentioned you don't use (I avoid it at all costs unless straight, flat highway driving on a long road trip), and even dropping down to the low ride height seems to lean the wheels inward causing uneven wear. How is your air pressure? I keep mine at 48-49 psi cold.

I also have a separate set of snow tires for winter, and you're right - there unfortunately isn't anything for the 21s. I wound up getting a whole separate set of 20" rims and snow tires through 1010 tires in Coquitlam and they have been great and easy to swap each season. I have the R1T, so I use one of the "off season" tires as my spare in the bed. If you want a referral to the store in Coquitlam, drop me a message and I can forward the info. They have enough experience with Rivians that I trust them (I went to a number of tire shops initially before I settled on these guys).

Good luck! It would be incredibly frustrating to have to replace them now, but rest assured that it isn't normal and once you find the culprit you should get plenty of life out of them.
I would really like to know whom you dealt with. Are you the green R1T on Hoskins? We are at the top of the hill!

We have had a lot of issues. The shocks went, the frunk was leaking, the HVAC was blocked and flooded the interior and our tires wore out at 8,000 km. Also the screen locks or doesn’t respond to commands or recognize the driver. It is all very tiring and the worse thing is that I like the vehicle!!!

9k km on my Pirelli Scorpion 21 in. tires. No issues, look largely as good as new.
You should look into getting at least prorated discounts on tire replacement for premature wear.
I rarely rip the road or blast off from standstill.
Also, my R1S is forever since day one on All Purpose, standard height.
Hope it all works out well for you.

Yeah, Rivian was not so keen on providing prorated help. They gave us two new 21” tires but we had to buy the other two and we still don’t have snow tires. To drive to Squamish we have to have snow rates tires. The Michelin Defenders are not snow rated. I bought the vehicle to drive to Squamish to visit my grandkids without having to pay for gas.

EVs are heavy. EVs have lots of torque. Add on top of that, variable height suspension (and resulting changes in suspension geometry and potential for uneven wear), driving habits and a degree of user-error (like not following tire rotation intervals)... None of this about tire wear should come as a surprise to anyone who considered what they were getting themselves into when choosing a 7,000+ lb vehicle, capable of sub 5 second 0-60 mph and has variable height suspension.
This apologist attitude is pretty ridiculous. Most people are getting 20k miles + out of their original Pirellis, so there is definitely something wrong with the owner's vehicle. So stop trying to gaslight the owner and make them feel like they are stupid.

I think we are going to in short order find out that the 21" Michelin Defenders are going to last much longer then the Pirellis. Owners have already found that the Michelins offer better noise and ride quality than the Pirellis without any significant loss of range or handling. The Pirellis are just a shitty tire for this vehicle. End of story.

Hmm, I don't see to have the guy's name. I bought the wheels/tires combo online through them, but had them shipped to their Coquitlam store for install, and I go back each season for changeover (I store the off season tires myself at home, but they also offer wheel storage). They are very close to the IKEA in Coquitlam, so not super close, but not "too" far either! But they seem to know Rivians well enough. I was just there this week getting my winter tires back on. Their number is 604-526-8473, and if you say Adam (with the blue Rivian truck with company decals) referred you, I think they'll know. I definitely don't have any special favours with them, but I've felt pretty well taken care of by them and I would think they'll extend that to you too. And if they don't, let me know and I'll give them a piece of my mind for you :)

I'm over closer to Seymour Mtn, this one is me. Hard to hide :)

LOL if you think these are actually anything special. They’re just EV tires.

Rivian didn’t make them.

Be better.
As a tire designer for Goodyear, I can confirm Rivian is very involved in the tire design process. Rivian collaborates closely with their suppliers to optimize the performance of their vehicles.

Thank you so very very much!

We went out to 1010 Tires this afternoon and Jay was so helpful. He has worked on Rivians, probably yours, and has experience in understanding what is needed for the specs. He also explained about how All Weather tires would perform in our wet sleety rain vs snow tires which are designed for dry fluffy snow.

He recommended tires that he recommends for F350s because they are heavy and chew up tires like EVs. He worked out a super good deal for us as well. Half of what new wheels and tires would have cost through Rivian

My last comment on this whole topic is that I bought and EV in order to be environmentally sensitive. Wearing out sets of tires even at 20,000 km is nothing to brag about. Pirelli has a warranty for 80,000 km for these tires for an electric vehicle. We should all be complaining and holding them accountable not accepting substandard performance. I understand that tires are recycled now but we should not be adding sets of tires to the heap four to five times more often than expected.

Thank you for all the replies to my post.

Goodbye, Myrna

I'm not aware than any tire manufacturer offers warranties on the tires sold with new vehicles, @Myrna Pearce.

I presume either the specifications are different, or something about the new car experience is different.

Best wishes!
