Mine was making a loud clunk when it was almost fully open and got stuck a couple times. I sprayed some dry graphite lube and it's been a lot better since. I didn't spray it in the middle like that picture shows, just along the rails on the sides, focusing a bit extra towards the cab end of the tracks since that's where it was binding. I'm still a bit afraid to use it but a bit less so now.

The problem with the covers is clearly friction and thus, lube is the answer. I used some armor-all type stuff I had laying around and have a handy Milwaukee M18 blower that is perfect for blowing crap off the cover before opening it, if it has been sitting. Seems to be working fine. I worry about the WD-40 dry lube because it's acetone based if I'm not mistaken. That might harm the finish over time depending on what it's made of.

If you don't have something like this... I highly recommend it. I use this thing constantly for all kinds of stuff, even when I have compressed air handy. Link to blower

I have yet to see any pics or video of the manual cover, but the website says this:
Not sure what app Rivian is referring to. Could someone please show me how to open my tonneau cover from the app cause... uh... nope. Lock/unlock, turn on the climate control (but not adjust it), and viewing charging is about it, at least on the iPhone app that is.

check Walmart.com. That’s where I got mine. Delivered in two days.

Unfortunately my tonneau broke the day before my truck was even delivered.

Had the lube and was ready to party.

I haven't been able to find the CRC lube -- out of stock, everywhere.

Could the air compressor in the truck do this?

Walmart had the WD-40 but not the CRC... At least in my area.

Has anyone found a good alternative to CRC dry graphite that is available on Amazon?

I bought a cab of WD-40 Specialist Dry Lube w/PTFE. Haven’t tried it yet, but another R1T owner recommended it.

I was told by a Rivian employee that the secret to the Tonneau was to keep it clean, especially keep sand out, and use the air compressor to blow and and dirt off before closing. So yes.

So, to recap. Lube and blow and you should have a happy Tonneau.
