A dry lube party, that is.

Looks like the answer to the tonneau cover issues is regular maintenance using WD-40 dry lube.

I am going to be keeping my vehicle outside so lots of potential for stuff to get into my cracks.

There has got to be a better solution here. I think we need an aftermarket cover for our tonneau cover. Something that is soft but blocks water and debris that can fit over the existing locking cover to provide protection because having to lube this thing every month is a nonstarter.

I don’t want to know what a lube “party” is:giggle:, but I am just going with the manual tonneau after hearing about all these issues. I realize that doesn’t help anyone who is lucky enough to already have their truck.

A lube party involves R1Ts with power tonneau covers, beers, tunes, and a lot of dry lube. :cool:

If someone wants to bring me their R1Ts, I will bring the beers and lube (never thought I'd ever say that out loud).

Meanwhile, if I didn't think it would push my R1T delivery date to 2028, I would seriously consider the manual cover

My hope is that much like the gear shuttle and camp kitchen the manual tonneau is something that can just be shipped to me or installed later and they can simply sell me a truck with no tonneau at all.🤞

While some WD-40 is a good solution what about some waterproof dielectric grease? I feel like it would offer more protection from elements and would need less maintenance/reapplication.

How does this get through engineering in the first place? Then, how did it through some prototype process and all the way to, "we know it's a problem"? I'll clean the track, then utilize some lower viscosity dielectric water-proof grease, that's it...I'm not laying inside my bed with WD40....lol

If and when I ever get my R1T, I will try Gibbs Brand penetrating oil. Most WD-40 products are solvent-based and thus poor lubricants. Gibbs has never let me down.
