I haven’t seen this setup before so sharing here in case someone else is considering the same setup.

FWIW. Fits perfectly on rails and has no overhang. Sleeps 2 really comfortably , maybe 2 plus dog/child.

Got it for 2k. Deals are out there!

Great looking setup, OP. The Approach looks like a quality tent, and I think the design is really cool. What are your impressions of the mattress?

Mattress is fine. It’s firm but comfortable. If you like a firm mattress it’s perfect. If you like a soft mattress it might be too firm.

Got mine on sale earlier this year, really like it. Sleeps two adults and a 5-year-old comfortably. I know a lot of people suggest you should never buy anything other than a hard shell RTT, but *shrug*. I like this thing.

Apologies for the ridiculous question (I didn't want to embarass myself on other RTT threads)...

I don't know anything about RTTs. How is the tent supported on the ladder side? Is that ladder supporting the weight of the people inside? What if the legs "slide out"? Would the whole thing collapse? Even if the ladder is locked, that's a lot of surface area to support if you weigh 120-180+lbs (and that's a single person). Seems very rickety haha.

I am glad you asked the questions because I have the same ones. Here's another: if the ladder is down, doesn't that make it easier for a critter, bear or a snake to seek out the inside?

And here is one for the OP: how well insulated is the tent? Can you easily add AC duct?

IMO its an insulated as any other tent. You can buy a thermal insulation add on. No idea on AC duct. I assume so but probably have to make shift it yourself.

You'll want to make sure the ladder is on a sturdy surface where it won't slide out (cuz you'll want that support while you're climbing up/down the ladder anyway). You can make it more or less vertical depending on surface grip and your physical ability. The feet should be rubberized, which helps.

If the legs do slide out, then ya that half of the tent would fall over (the tent would fold open past 180 degrees). What exactly happens past that will depend on the exact tent model. On mine, which is a different model and a bit smaller, it'll just rest on the side edges of the crossbars. Not ideal (I'd be worried about the crossbars putting a dent or eventually wearing through the bottom if it happens long-term), but not a big deal if it happens once or twice.

For a tent with a bigger overhang on the side when opened, it'll probably still be fine, but depending on your weight distribution inside, it might put more strain on the mounting brackets, and potentially knock something loose.

On my RTT (the AirCruiser), you can just stick an AC duct into the main opening and pull the tent's zipper around it. I put my Wave 2 on a gear tunnel door, power it from the outlet in the gear tunnel, and route the AC duct up to the tent from there.

I remember seeing that the Roofnest Condor 2 has built-in HVAC ducts, if that's what you're looking for.
