In the coming weeks through the end of the year, you can expect to see many enhancements at stations starting with the replacement of 300+ early technology chargers with our Next-Generation Charger.

We will continue to share updates on this charger replacement campaign in the coming weeks. Thank you for being a member of our EV community ⚡

Maybe this is why some chargers are left for dead. No reason to fix if they are gonna be upgraded and replaced

300 chargers means 75 locations, 10% of their current system. It’s a good start, hopefully they get close to Tesla reliability over time!

Did they identify locations? And would they replace all units at a particular location? Just curious…

Why would they be more reliable? EA hasn't state they are allocating more investment to maintenance, even if they wanted to, it has to be approved first. Money for additional maintenance would have to be offset by a decline in new installations anyway.

EA has one more investment cycle left, then they are off the hook as for as their obligations per their settlement.

At any rate, these are probably their balanced chargers. They load share a 350kW feed between two chargers, so in reality it could be a downgrade.

The good thing of this situation at the moment - free charging at EA.

I am not sure what area is covered but Was charging in NY and NJ state over the weekend during my trip and it was all free.

Why would they be more reliable?

More reliable because they were custom built for this purpose.

The existing chargers are basically a hodgepodge of parts and software to function as an EV charger which doesn't help for reliability.

This should bring them closer to Tesla. If Tesla is like v4 of chargers right now, EAs been using v1 and v2... They are now v3+.

While this feels like a drop in the bucket for EA's reliability issues, it is at least an acknowledgement of their need to step it up. Customer expectations will go along with it.

Hopefully, Siemen's recent $450M and VW's continued investments in EA are pressed further. Horse and cart.

The EA network's reliability has largely tied to which manufacturer built the chargers for each location. They're getting rid of stations made by ABB. They've already pulled all or nearly all of their stations that were initially set up with efacec because of coolant leak issues that caused huge reliability problems.

These new chargers were also designed from the ground up for reliability as EV chargers. The previous ones, as someone else said, were largely thrown together in a hurry. Tesla's design process for the supercharger network was much better from Day 1. EA shot itself in the foot in the interests of getting stations online fast to avoid any outside pressure.
