I chatted with CS a few weeks ago about the water bottles from the media outing and I got a very boilerplate response about the store going live "this fall."

No mysterious packages since then.

Who is this "CS" I keep reading about?

Ok, not the anticipation of waiting for my R1T. Well, that too.

But I got this email over a week ago, and still nothing! I'm dying over here! What is it? Why won't they send it? Does an R1T only weigh 1LB and does LE priority delivery include UPS Next day air? Is it a ticket for Blue Origin? Did something happen to James T. Kirk?

That is rough. @CarterGee and @crashmtb got a water bottle. @HokieBird7980 got a birthday present. They all now know beyond the shadow of a doubt they are special.

on the other hand @Gator42 got a rock. Me and @blturner got a piece of cardboard and a form letter. I don’t know about these two but I always knew I was nothing special. The thing is, I thought it was a secret. Now I know that Rivian knows it too.

You are in limbo. You could be up there with the chosen ones or be down here with us in the insignificant club. If you end up with us know that there are perks. If we got a water bottle or a birthday present, we would burn in hell for cancelling a reservation but for a cardboard, you can cancel anytime and save $80K guilt free.

Ehh I had to pay UPS inflated brokerage fees, sales tax, and duty on it because UPS doesn’t bother reading pro forma invoices despite their being three copies. So it cost me $30, or about the retail price of a MIIR water bottle.

maybe if you ask Rivian‘s very personable customer service people enough dumb questions like I have, they will take pity on you and mail you some SWASG tooooo.

Yeah, I don't know how some people got t-shirts, bottles, etc. I'm certainly not an "early" pre-order holder (December 2019) but literally all I've ever gotten from Rivian was the art print. They've never even emailed me other than the normal bulk emails.

The one person I was talking to confirmed my address, I didn’t think much of it, then some weeks later UPS delivers a box from Rivian. Plus that person’s dog now follows my dog on Instagram so there’s thst

I have not had any other email or mail from Rivian apart from the newsletter/update stuff and the thank you letter & print. I have however used the customer service chat a bunch to attempt to answer questions I can’t resolve through the information on the website.
Squeaky wheel gets the goodies I guess. It seems to be at the discretion of the customer service people. Suspect there is probably a ‘budget’ per customer, if it’s anything like other similar sales and marketing stuff.

If I am acting as a walking billboard for a company, it better be free. If I designed the product or played a significant role in making it, I can see being proud of having the logo on my shirt but never understood the virtue of pride in being a consumer. That said, I can see in case of Rivian, spreading the word for them since I want the company to succeed and they could use more reservations.
