The title says it all. Picked up my R1S Sept 30, got rear ended on the highway last night.
Thank G-d everyone alright. Right now it appears to be minimal damage to the hatch cover (cracked) and bumper (scraped and deformed on the left side) as well as some liftgate misalignment (but could just be the bumper throwing me off). His car didn't get off quite so easy. I have to say I'm very impressed with how strong this car is and happy with the fact that it seems to be really safe.
Going to get it checked out soon.
Any recommendations for shops in Rockland County, NY or nearby (northern NJ, Westchester, etc.)? The insurance agent suggested Art Auto Body in West Nyack as an authorized Rivian body shop.
Any advice on what I need to do regarding diminished value? Not quite sure how that works but I've seen it pop up on a few threads here.

Glad you and the family are OK. About a month in when I thought I was turning on driver assist. I put the R1S in reverse and rear ended of the car behind me. Cracked tail light and door over the trailer hitch about $200. Hope itā€™s that easy for you.
Canā€™t comment on what insurance will do. Best wishes.

I did that about 16 years ago into my neighbor's brand new car. That was an awful feeling.

Hopefully, it isn't damaged too badly, and you're back on the road quickly. One thing about Rivian is they are safe. Best of luck that you're back on the road soon. As far as diminished value claim goes it depends on how damaged it is.

Sorry to hear about your truck but glad to hear that everyone was ok. I had a minor parking lot collision about 3 months after picking up my R1S last year and have been through the process. If you have drivecam footage of the accident, it will aid the insurance process greatly.

Rivian has all of the certified collision centers listed on their website. These are the only shops that will work on your vehicle.

Mine took about 3 months from damage appraisal to finished repairs.

For diminished value, I hired an independent DV appraiser that took the photos and description of the damage to the vehicle to researched resale values and generated a report that I sent to the insurance company. I found them from a flyer in the collision center, how convenient! The cost was $800 for the service but I got back about $6k in DV, so worth it to me.

Good luck and I hope that you get back on the road soon!

Good to hear. I'll be giving them a call today. How's their turnaround time?

It depends on what you need done. Have them evaluate it first. If it is drivable they will just have you come in after all the parts have arrived. Some of it depends on how fast they can get Rivian parts. They're pretty good with updates and communication.

Sucks that this happened, but on the bright side, as the person who was rear-ended you are generally never at-fault, 100% covered (even your deductible which your insurer can subrogate from the at-fault party's insurer) and it never impacts your rates.

A one month old vehicle, yeah, you have a good case for a diminished value claim. There are professionals who can pursue that for you. They do this all day long and know all the dirty tricks the other party's insurer might try to lower their payout. Probably well worth the cost of their services.

Luckily there does not seem to be any compromised function, and to my untrained mind it feels to be handling as normal, so no problem waiting a bit for parts.

Having been rear ended twice previously in NY I'm well aware that the other party is usually at fault. I also have the added bonus of the video of the incident and the other driver's statement to the police admitting fault, so I'm not too worried about his insurance covering it. My Rivian/Nationwide advisor actually suggested going directly through the other driver's insurance to avoid any rate hikes, etc.

A little closer inspection in daylight revealed some minor dents/scratches at the bottom edge of the liftgate (I suspect from the Mercedes hood ornament) as well as a bunch of under body scrapes. Amazing that even at the low height the Rivian is high enough thag his car basically was deflected and/or slid under the back of mine. Really has me psyched to take it off road. Curious if the added under body protection of the Adventure Pack extends far enough back that it actually had some bearing on the outcome here.

I'll try to post some pics once I get my estimate.

So sorry. Rivians are definitely safe, though. Drive well.

Dang! Glad everyone was alright! If you have the drive cam video of the crash Iā€™d be interested in seeing it. šŸ™ƒ

I do. Once I have a little free time I'll get it up, but really not that exciting.

Took it to the shop yesterday for the initial evaluation (obviously won't know more until they take the bumper cover off). The tech said that from the damage under the car it looks like the guy hit the brakes and took a little nose dive allowing him to slide under. As I was there another guy with a Forest Green Gen 1 came in to pick up his car which was also rear ended, but he had more damage to the liftgate, probably because he was hit by a van. He looked a bit confused as he walked in and saw my car in front. Then we showed each other car and accident pics like a couple of proud parents.
Sounds like turnaround time shouldn't be that bad. They told me they're getting parts fairly quickly from Rivian, much faster than Tesla, so that's a nice surprise.
Stopped by the Blauvelt SC to scope it out after, which might have been a mistake because it made me regret a little not getting the quad. Oh well, at least I found out they have some waypioint chargers there. Good to know in a pinch.

I got hit last year that left a big panel dent in the driver-side rear. The other driver's insurance paid for the repairs.

The final cost was roughly $16k. From the time of the crash to when the repair was finished was 2.5 months. It took a few weeks for the shop to get the parts from Rivian and 5 weeks to do the repairs.

All I could do was try to work on my patience ;-)
