EV noob chiming in (only had my R1S for a few weeks)...I've been researching this question recently as we are about to embark on our first road trip...

I am going to charge to 100% prior to leaving on any long road trip/journey. We have a battery warranty for a reason and I don't think it's worth leaving a destination with only 70 (or even 80%) charge before a long stretch...

I drive 80-82mph on freeways and I'd have to stop way too soon if I leave with less than 100%
This is the way to do it for a trip - Charge to 100% at home just before departure, and cap the DCFC charges at 85% max en route (to save time and extra strain on the battery)

Very good point and noted!

I'll get back on the road once hitting 70ish charge after our first EA stop instead of just hanging out waiting to get to 100.

Does anyone know roughly how long it takes (time wise) to get from let's say 70-100 at a supercharger? I know this is depending on kwh at the charger but just rough estimates...
In my experience 30-80% takes less time than 80-100%.

My 5k mile trip I was going between 150 and 220 miles per charge, using EA 150 and 350 chargers most stops were between 25 and 35 minutes usually charging ing up to 70 or 80% depending on what the next charger and backup charger options were. Worth noting, I never needed the targeted backup chargers but always planned for it just in case.

Also worth noting that very little charge time difference (less than 5 minute) between 150 and 350 chargers as the truck usually caps at 220ish for a very short period and you can see in the 170s on the 150.

If you do it at home to 100%. Watch and see it will slow down when it gets around 70 to 100. Super slow from 90 to 100%. Same as with tesla.
Stays constant for me as L2 does

For this test I went from 74% to 92% in 31 minutes. 74% to 85% went real quick, like 5 min. So next I'll have to test at the same charger from sub-50% to 85%.

Also note once you get over around 80 or 85 %SoC (do not know the exact % threshold), your regen is limited more and more the higher SoC you have...something to keep in mind. The truck will not stop unless you use the pedal on the left lol There is always a brief period to remind you as you coast.

Yeap. Unless you have time to wait, I would stop at 70 to 75 % enough to get home or to the next charger.

I don't see any reason to charge to 100% at an EA charger near your home.

Charging to 80 or 85% proves the fast charging works.

I do all my charging to 100% at either home or destination charging due to how long it takes. I don't want to be the one taking up a fast charger stall for at least an hour just because I'm trying to reach 100%.
