Is there any harm in testing an EA charge to 100%? I have a road trip scheduled soon and that would be the first time I use EA chargers, so I wanted to stop by a local EA location and test a charge from 60-100%. Any reason why I shouldn't do that prior to my trip?

Thanks,
Ben

As long as you do not leave it sitting at 100% no issues. I can tell you from experience the time to go from 95% to 100% is absolutely not worth the handful of extra miles.

Agreed. I won't go above 80% unless I absolutely need to in order to get to the next charger, stopping at 70-75% is even better.

In my experience you will drop below 100kW around 70% SOC and then to around 50kW around 80% SOC and then just continue falling further from there as you approach 100% SOC

Great. I plan on stopping by the charger over lunch today. SOC should be around 60%, so I'll charge for 45 min and see where I'm at. If it isn't busy I'll play around with the chargers and see what rates different units give me. Then it's back to the office.

Echoing what was stated previously:
-The fear of charging to 100 is often overstated. Yes, best practice is to keep as close to 50% SOC as possible, but 100% SOC isn't going to brick the vehicle or make it a ticking time bomb
-This past weekend I was meeting with a friend in Baker, CA, I got there an hour earlier than him due to traffic, I waited and charged at the EA station (I was alone, so didn't feel too much shame staying hooked up when there were 8 150kw and 3 350kw chargers still free)
The time from 10%-70 was ~ 20 minutes, 70-85 another ~20 minutes, but 85-100% it estimated 1 hour
I charged until he got there and was sitting at 95% SOC, after 90% a level 2 charger can actually be faster than the charge rates from the DCFC

I wouldn't fear charging to 100 percent. I did charge 3 times from northern California to mesquite, Nevada. On my way home l charged to 100 percent from mesquite to Barstow, California on conserve mode that I should have had 70 mi left when I reached Barstow. I ended up only having 15 miles left as a the speed, hills and windy conditions lowered the mileage. I would definitely do it again on longer road trips. At home l set it for 85 percent and would like a 80 percentage cut off point. I'm unsure if I can customized my computer to shut down at 80%.

EV noob chiming in (only had my R1S for a few weeks)...I've been researching this question recently as we are about to embark on our first road trip...

I am going to charge to 100% prior to leaving on any long road trip/journey. We have a battery warranty for a reason and I don't think it's worth leaving a destination with only 70 (or even 80%) charge before a long stretch...

I drive 80-82mph on freeways and I'd have to stop way too soon if I leave with less than 100%

I found it interesting that our delivery specialist made it a point to tell us the battery warranty (degradation) covers you even if charging to 100% daily.

If you are not in the hurry to get to your destination, I would charge 100% at home before you leave, but to 80% or even 70% for the next one or enough to get to the next charger. from 80% to 100% takes forever !!!

Very good point and noted!

I'll get back on the road once hitting 70ish charge after our first EA stop instead of just hanging out waiting to get to 100.

Does anyone know roughly how long it takes (time wise) to get from let's say 70-100 at a supercharger? I know this is depending on kwh at the charger but just rough estimates...

Charging is limited by the truck so it's going to be the same at an EA station vs. a Tesla supercharger.

If you do it at home to 100%. Watch and see it will slow down when it gets around 70 to 100. Super slow from 90 to 100%. Same as with tesla.

I meant DCFC charging not necessarily a Tesla Supercharger.
