Nice! How many amps are you running? How hot does your garage get in the summer?
It can get up to 120F. I have some smart home automations that "vent" the garage by opening all the doors to let some heat out. Breaker is 60 amps.

The automations are a great idea. The breaker is at 60 amps but what is the car charging at amps wise is what I meant. If it’s pulling 50 amps for hours for years, it should theoritically be fine, but risks do go up of a catastrophic failure. Also in the summers for some of us, the garage can get well into the 130’s increasing risks.

For what it's worth for anyone that's still following this thread - apparently the issues with the TUWC have been resolved with a software update. There's some comments about it over on the the TeslaMotorsClub thread. I can personally confirm. I received my replacement TUWC today, and on a whim tried my old one before swapping it out, and the old one worked for the first time ever. I still swapped it out, and the new one also works.

Good to know; thanks for the update.

FWIW I got my Tesla Universal charger a couple of weeks ago, and it worked fine on my...Hyundai Kona rental - my R1S was in the shop.

I just got the R1S back today, and it charged just fine the first time too. (Both the R1S and the Kona will start with a red light like something is wrong, but after a few seconds everything turns green and the charging proceeds as expected).

So I was one of the lucky ones that had everything work out of the box.

Yes thanks for the update. I brought the UWC to the second house where I’ll install it, but too much going on this weekend so it will have to wait for my next visit. Glad to know I won’t have to get a new one when I get around to it.

Sent Tesla the ol "very disappointed" email. Checked the connector today and I am now updated to firmware HEAD (3CAE3FBA856679)-3cae3fb and it mostly works now! I get one red flash then green charging.

My contractor installed it yesterday in my absence, but I need to coach him through the commissioning process remotely. He will then test on his Rav4 PHEV.

Sooo… I had purchased the UWC a couple months ago and finished the install a couple weeks back. Then took delivery on our R1 (love it) and am now facing the same issues. Did commissioning with Tesla app originally, but then factory reset with Tesla Pros and did all the suggested things there. UWC says it’s on latest software, but seems like the call to Tesla is the practical next step. Any other ideas?

when I installed my UWC, it said it was in the latest firmware and refused to charge the R1T.

Tesla pushed new(er) firmware and the charging started to work as expected.

Perhaps this newer firmware isn’t generally released yet?

oh - one more thing. They had me power the UWC breaker off for a few minutes and then power it up and try again. It might be worth a try.

What firmware version is your unit running? Maybe it didn't actually update. Also make sure it's set to allow charging to all vehicles. Mine is at 23.24.3-ba52398 (per the Tesla app).

I just had this installed at my house and I can't get it to charge my R1S - how did you get Tesla to update the firmware?

My first Tesla Wall charger wouldn't charge my Model Y. I quickly bought a second one because I needed to charge at home.
After calling Tesla, several times and several different people, it was finally discovered that the "DIP Switch" inside the unit was set a 8 Amps, not at 48 Amps.
Then I got my Rivian, moved to Florida, and installed the first unit in my garage.
With the J1772 adapter, I have been able to charge my R1T without any issues.
Just wondering if this new unit costs more than the original charger? There are many Tesla wall chargers for sale everywhere for as low as $200 I've seen.

I’m on 23.24.4 can’t get it to change even with the manual firmware update. Set to “All Vehicles” as well
