Tesla dealership could be coming soon to Asheville

I am confused. I thought the arcane dealership protection laws in our state precluded this. My understanding was that Tesla’s Raleigh and Charlotte service centers were grandfathered in but no more could be built. Could this mean that there is some softening of our unfair barriers?

Or Tesla decided to play nice with the dealership association and this is just like all the others?

It's only a matter of time before dealerships are relegated to the dustbin of history. There is too much demand for direct sales. When even Ford is changing to an order direct model for their EV's you can see how much demand there is.

Perhaps located on the Cherokee nation not far from Asheville?
Definitely in Asheville itself. The original article even has the address:

291 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC

NC's grandfather law for Tesla allows a maximum of 6 stores and unlimited galleries and service centers.

I’m curious how the powerful dealers lobby ever allowed this grandfathered law.

This is really frustrating. Me/our Rivian experience would be so much different if I knew there was a service center within 2 hours.

Speak to your state rep and state senator. The only way it’s going to change is if they think their constituents care more than the lobbyists.

IMO the "Tesla exception" that some states have implemented is even more anti-competitive than the dealer laws. Both need to go.

Hendrick paid a pretty penny to all the state rep critters they could fund. It will be an uphill battle for some time I'm afraid, as why should our government benefit its citizens when you can get paid to benefit business.

We also have no solar HOA laws either, so if your HOA is an idiot and says 'no put it on back of house' effectively destroying your ability to get solar, because the sun doesn't work that way you're hosed.

At least that stupid 'itemize and charge your customers if you provide free charging' bill died.
